MSI Afterburner

Has anyone gotten MSI Afterburner to work with this game?
The game absolutely refuses to start while it's running, but I need it for the fan profile for my video card.

yeah with the steam overelay + uplay overlay + msi overlay it is often the only choice you have to disable at least one

here to get at least steam + msi , I disable the uplay overlay and in the msi riva tuner I build a custom profil for fc4 and I enable the option "Custom direct3d support"

Oh I never even thought of that. The overlay I could live without. I need it it for my fan profile since I have my card overclocked. Leaving it at stock fan settings would've throttled the card, but I'll give your option a shot so I can monitor it as well.

Just a wild suggestion this, try setting affinity and seperating each of the overlay program to different cores.

Try it manually first by setting the programs in taskmanger, if it works, this youtube vid shows how to make your own launch icon to set affinity automatically.

Another suggestion is maybe uncheck core 2 (3rd core since core count starts at 0) The game uses this core more than the rest.

I've had no problem with Afterburner. Radeon R9 290X. I play directly through UPlay, not Steam. Maybe that matters? I use it for OSD monitoring and for its fan profile.

Like Hoonose I have had zero issues with Afterburner - I run it 24/7 to control my fanspeeds and overclocks and it seems to be rock solid. This is with a pair of 780 Tis.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll try these new suggestions shortly. I'll start first with the post in the Ubisoft forums. Not sure why I didn't come across that, but thank you nevertheless.

If that doesn't work (I hope it does work though) I will try Boju's suggestion. If it helps any I am using Windows 8.1 Pro x64.

Following a post in this thread worked. I'm able to keep Rivatuner on and the game works fine. The overlay doesn't work but that's fine. My fan profile works and that's all that matters. Thanks for all the help =)

Make a fc4 profile in afterburner an put detection level on low an enable stealth mode. Most of the time this works but if that dont work start afterburner after the game an other overlays start.

If it still dont work (finicky at times) just disable the overlay in fc4 an you can have it running fir your fan profile. All assuming you're running the latest afterburner.

I use MSI Afterburner for limiting fps. The cause is Rivatuner however I got it to work with Rivatuner by following these instructions. Open Rivatuner, open the wrench icon in Rivatuner, then disable "Enable Dedicated encoder server service" & "Enable 64-bit applications support service" after unchecking those two options click ok. Now add Far Cry 4's EXE to Rivatuner and when added turn off the option for "Custom Direct3d Support". Should start up like normal now. If not you may have to play around with the program more as it's a setting causing it and the program itself. I found this fix out myself. Good Luck Hope this helps.

The only way I could get the game to work was with MSI. Try lowering detail settings in game Video settings menu.

I got it to work quite some time ago guys. I don't recall what I did but both the overlay and my fan profile work with the game now.
