Is it me, or does Far Cry 3 seem better than Far Cry 4?
I put in a good 20 hours into Far Cry 3 and found it very enjoyable, but Far Cry 4 I'm finding it not as enjoyable. I can't quite put my finger on it why I feel this way.

Though Far Cry 3 was the first Far Cry game that I played. I could have burnt myself out a bit on the game.

What are your thoughts on Far Cry 3 vs Far Cry 4?

Gotta say Far Cry 4 is overall better. More expansive world, more immersive world, awesome coop with elephants, better graphics, and one of the most enjoyable villains ever. Far Cry 3 was good, but this is better; though Far Cry 2 is still the pinnacle of faux realism in the series.

FC4 has the extras that FC2 required. But FC2 has a better set up of the game play [still the pinnacle of faux realism]

pagan > vaas

The tension in FC3 is greater in my opinion than FC4. Vaas is out to get you from the get-go, whereas Pagan is trying to feed you Crab Rangoon.
Don't get me wrong, really enjoyed/enjoy both..... but FC4 gives you that little extra breathing room...

The stealth is harder for me in FC4 even though it is unchanged from FC3. Too much open space, not enough cover imo. Aside from that I find it more enjoyable than FC3.

Far Cry 4 has too many activities and collectibles. Far Cry 3 had the right amount.

Far Cry 4's map was too large for the small amount of main quests available.

Far Cry 4 PC optimization is a pile of poop. With a GTX 1080 Far Cry 4 still plays really poorly and has hitching here and there. Yet Far Cry: Primal which looks better plays smoother somehow. Go figure.

And onto the point of side activities I've never understood the racing activities. They serve no practical purpose and don't suit the atmosphere of the game. It's like every sandbox map game has racing activities put into it for the sake of it. The activities that did make sense were assassination contracts and such. They serve a practical in-game purpose.

The one thing that lets Far Cry 4 down is that there are too much time wasting collectibles and illogical activities plus the main quest is way way too short and didn't really go anywhere. Plus the friendship between Amita and Ajay could have been developed more.

Old thread I know. But I feel comparing the 2 game is like comparing apples to oranges.
Both a great games, both do things really well, it's all boils down to personal preferance.

For me, far cry 4 is the better game, just has more to do, feels like it takes more advantage of the game engine FC3 setup.

FC3 is a great game, but I feel it's was a precursor to a slightly better game, in insignificant details.
Kinda like far cry 5, good concept not so greatly executed.

FC3 feels a bit unpolished compared to FC4 (tho i still don't like some of the design choices in FC4 since they leave a lot to be desired).

Story of FC3 and characters are just slightly better.

I still love FC3 but i love FC4 a bit more.
Its hard to explain its like picking your favorite child that's not a easy choice.

I like the story of 3 for actually having a story; 4's entire story was history. Everything you do NOW seems pointless, with no emotional investment, and both of the two minor variations are terrible. 3 at least had a somewhat interesting story and character arc. On the other hand, the history of 4 EXISTS. In 3, the people of Rook Island hardly seem to have a culture, beyond dancing and eating boar; it's mundane and boring as hell. 3 had more interesting characters; only a few important ones and they are around frequently enough to like them. 4 crammed in more, but they got so few scenes as to hardly be noticeable. If Min wasn't constantly calling to tell jokes, he'd hardly be in the game. Gameplay wise, 4 clearly has more of it than 3, but 4 also has more unnecessary extras; both stupid and over-powered weapons, too many collectibles, and the bastard eagles, for some examples. It's bigger and bloated, 3 is leaner and limited. Side-quests were better in 4 too; they at least gave you voiced flavor text instead of 2 sentences on a "job board" like a stereotypical JRPG (the collectibles also are given some reason to exist). Graphics-wise, I don't see a big difference in quality; it's really a matter of whether you like beaches and jungle or mountains and forests. I also love how both games have the last third be distinctly different, and in both cases, it's the worst part. So all in all, I say that games are pretty equal in terms of quality, but 4 substantially beats 3 in terms of quantity.
