Is it me, or does Far Cry 3 seem better than Far Cry 4?
I put in a good 20 hours into Far Cry 3 and found it very enjoyable, but Far Cry 4 I'm finding it not as enjoyable. I can't quite put my finger on it why I feel this way.

Though Far Cry 3 was the first Far Cry game that I played. I could have burnt myself out a bit on the game.

What are your thoughts on Far Cry 3 vs Far Cry 4?

Well, the campaign in 4 sucks which is a big problem and though the world is of a decent size, it all gets extremely repetitive because it does look so similar to 3.

Aside from pummeling enemies with an elephant, 4 is pretty weak overall.

Gameplay itself is a minor improvement over FC3, addition of grappling hooks, Gyrocopter, elephants, elephant gun, FC4 also suffers a few minor things same as FC3 like being unable to fully upgrade the guns how you want (no red dot on AK even though it has a picatinny rail) and the creatures are for the most part not as interesting as the stuff in FC3 for hunting purposes. I remember bowhunting sharks to make up cash to buy stuff in FC3, wasn't fast but was faster than scrounging cash from stuff on maps but it was fun for me. FC4 is overall a very small improvement. It's just the setting is not near as good as what Far Cry 3 had. This is what hurts FC4, very poor locale.

i don't know FC3 had more theme more personality 4 felt so empty and dead

The music that plays when exploring and the colors in Far Cry 3 made it that more immersive. It felt like you were stuck on this island that is making you a badass. 4 just kinda plops you and says, "Go do stuff." and it is a bit more grey and boring.

I do like Kyrat a lot more than Rooks Island, quite tired of exotic jungles, it's not original setting anymore. I was dissapointed that the Himalays was not a part of the sandbox map though, instead bieng mission specific only.

Concerning the narratives, FC3 was better, it was more cohesive, I even liked the d-bag Jason better than boring Ajay. Jason had a clear goal and motivations and a bit of a character arc in FC3. Ajay in the other hand just goes along with everything he's told stoically without having any real stake in it.

FC3 is far better for me. Maybe it is just because I played it first, but main reasons are for me not storyline, but just the world.

Rook islands, especially north one, was just awesomely beautiful, environment was beautifully coloured and pretty various, there were beaches, jungle, mountains, valleys, caves, temples, rivers, just everything what should be on the pacific island and it was infinite fun to just ride arround and explore.

Kyrat on the other side was such boring for me. First thing is graphics. Maybe it has better quality, but I dont so much used colours, whole world is just grey for me, bright green and yellow from FC3 was much more beautiful. Kyrat is also only full of some forrests which are same everywhere without any variety.

Second thing is that FC4 world is just boring to explore. there happens so many things arround, but I dont know why I didnt care about it. I just finished the campaign and stop playing that game.

so for me it is FC3!!!!! one of best games I ever played.

really i completely disagree about the setting, i remember being SO underwhelmed in fc3 setting, everything looked the same, just a ♥♥♥♥ corrugated hut. and theny oud climb towers to reveal: more corrugated huts. i like the caves, the grappling hook allows for good vertical caves that have little nooks easy to miss.
the gyrocopter alone makes it head and shoulders above fc3, add to that that you have the wingsuit right from the beginning, and its just much more engaging.
personally i got bored with fc3 after about 30 hours, due to lack of difficulty, and severe repetition. also he boss battles were just flat out obnoxious in hard mode.
farcry 4 on the other hand, im 40 hours in, and only just now got to the north half of the map. granted alot of my time is playing coop and visiting all the tiny locations
COOP. fc4 you and a friend can explore the entire open map, do all the outposts, even retry the outposts to try to go for high scores/max stealth
in fc3: the coop was ♥♥♥♥♥♥ linear wave missions. and iirc there was no way to redo outposts.

for those reasons alone fc4 is a MAJOR improvement:
tl:dr:
replaying outposts w/leaderboard
way better coop, open map and the abillity do to all the outposts in coop.
grappling hooks
gyrocopters.
more weapons.
flying suit from the start.

There are parts of fc3 I do like but the main story in general seemed immature or better yet the content of the main story, only so much Vaas a person can stand. Tbh, Hurk stole the show.

FC4 is a good step forward from FC3.

I'd still like a revisit to the original Far Cry story or something more the same line though, with todays tech it would be awesome.

So... I played Far Cry 3 on the Playstation 3 ( I know, terrible, but my PC sucked at the time). Now I have a beast PC and not sure whether I should get FC3 (I know I enjoyed that one) or get FC4 (not sure if I'd enjoy that one?). Any advice?

I've played them both and there's not much difference between them. Far Cry 3 is the cheaper of the two.

I would get it on PC too if you enjoyed the game. The game looks amazing with all graphics on max.

Honestly its other way around for me
Far Cry 3 in my book has 9.5/10
where Far Cry 4 has 10/10 - its more far cry 3 but with more weapons , few signifficant to me gamepaly improvements which lack of them really bothered me in FC3, more fun quests / side activities and with tundras and mountains .. enviroments i love the most

For me Far Cry 4 is such an improvement over 3 that I have no desire to play 3 anymore.

The beginning of Far Cry 3 sucked so bad, especially the initial stages of crafting. I remember spending hours in 3 searching for pigs, boars, and goats...

The world is better in 4 with all the cliffs and different elevations.
The bell towers in 4 are better than those crappy radio towers
The outposts seem better in 4 (and the 4 fortresses are fun as hell)
The arena in 4 is fun as hell

The story is better in 3, but then again 3 had more of those trippy hallucinogenic scenes which I hated, and portions of the story in 3 were just mind numbingly frustrating (the fire escape and car chase for one example)

Plus being able to pick between Amita or Sabal adds a little bit more replay value to 4.

I also consider the intro of 4 to be a plus, because you can start a new game then go afk for 10-15 minutes and come back to start playing after the car crash. In 3 you had to actually play through that whole prison break scene.

yea and FC3 story isnt even that great that people think it is.. its every other B rated movie "save your friends from evil island" story ever made ! with poor predictable twists and so many plotholes that make no sense

Also it would be a lot better if Grant was the main hero and Jason was the one who got shot
since Grant has military experience and knows thing or two about survival but i guess they couldn't resist doing that overused cliche where a whimp loser becomes a super badass warrior.

not saying that FC4 story made sense either
but to me both of these stories are pretty much on same level but FC4 a tini bit worse

but who cares when gameplay is fun as hell
