Heavy flickering using SLI with patch 1.9.0
So after getting the update today I was really excited to try the new DLC. However once I got in game everything was flickering very badly. I played around with a lot of settings & found one thing that makes it go away. Swapping from Fullscreen Mode to Borderless Windowed or Windowed mode makes the flickering go away. However this also hits my performance pretty hard as well. I get 10 to 15 less FPS in both Windowed modes. Now if I go back to Fullscreen the flickering is almost gone, but it is still there just a little on darker objects(shadows). I really hope this issue gets addressed quickly.

I am using a laptop with:

i7-4900MQ OCed to 4.0GHz
32GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600MHz
2 x 4GB GTX 780M in SLI
2 x 1TB Samsung 840 EVO SSD
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
WHQL Geforce Driver 347.52

Anyone else getting in game flickering when using SLI on Patch 1.9.0?

Edit: New fix that really does work.

Force Anisotropic filtering to x16 in the Nvidia Control panel, & change AlphaToCoverage="0" and LightingQuality="ultrahigh" in the GamerProfile.xml file.

I tested this fix & it does make the flickering go away. :D:

Thanks to jrmanders on the ubi forums for the fix, & thanks to SOF=-WID99 & mooner for posting the info & a link here in this thread.

Edit 2: It seems that AlphaToCoverage setting doesn't matter. I turned it back on & the flickeing is still gone. Has to be the LightingQuality setting that is causing the issue when set to "high" instead of "ultrahigh"

Well that did fix the flickering however my textures are still broken ever since trying one of the work arounds from before. The patch didn't help that & neither did verifying the game cache. I guess I am going to have to uninstall & reinstall. D@mn!
Reinstalling now... 10 hours & 30 minutes for the download, & I am not even sure that will fix my problem with textures. I hope it does. I guess it doesn't hurt to try a fresh install of the game. I even deleted all other Far Cry 4 folders just be to sure nothing was left over. Oh God I hope this works...

I'm installing the patch now. Hoping my textures aren't jacked up.

Where they already jacked up? Mine got jacked up about a month ago when trying to fix the SLI fickering issue. If your textures were not already screwed up then they will probably be okay. I just hope a fresh install fixes mine.

Oh hell... Now my install download shows 10 hours 41 minutes. It is bigger than when it started. :(

Reinstalling the game will do nothing for you, since this will only replace the installation folder, but the change you did in the XML file is in your windows user profile, that will not be touched by this.
Either revert back the change you made in the %userprofile%\Documents\my games\Far Cry 4\GamerProfile.xml or simply switch your ingame settings to a new preset like high or very high, and then set the options again that you want, so the Game will write this XML again.
Hope it helps

Mine only got messed up when I tweaked things to try to fix the SLI thing - but I undid all the changes I had made (mainly just those couple xml file tweaks people were suggesting) so I am hoping it's ok. We'll find out... :) Let us know if the re-install fixes the bad textures for you.

Hi Ubisoft,

thx for your 2.1 GB Patch. I don`t know why you gave us a 2.1 GB patch, but anyway. If it is for trying to solve the SLI flickering since your last patch: " It is too late." I`ve been waited for 4 weeks to get a solution playing Far Cry 4 with SLI. Since you updated from patch 1.8 to patch 1.9 the game has been broken with SLI Systems. I waited 4 weeks for solving those SLI flickering problems, but you Ubisoft were not able to answer my questions or giving any hope for solving those flickering problems. So I deciced to end spending money to your company because of your 4 week " dont matter you`ve payed money for our products" opinion.

Your new 2.1 GB patch is not important for me, because I got other great games like GTA 5 or the upcoming Batman. And in future I will not buy products from Ubisoft which costs more than 20 Euros.

all the best,

I already did all of that & it didn't work. I even deleted all of the XML files & made the game recreate them. That didn't work either, & it did reset everything to default when I did that. I double checked & all of the XML settings were back to their original value. Obviously something else got screwed up when I originally altered the XML files. So the only option left for me was uninstall & delete all of the associated folders. Now I am reinstalling.

I already reverted back & it didn't help. I even deleted them & made the game recreate them fresh & that didn't help. I also changed every in game settings & still terribly low textures on my guns. So now I am trying the fresh install as my last option.

Oh ok, then you need to reinstall anyway since you already deinstalled the installtion, but if you already deleted the XML file, than all changes you made to that file are already gone.
Maybe you tried some of the other proposed changes, like altering your Settings in the Nvidia Control Panel or made changes using NvidiaInspector? E.g. Forcing AnisotropicFiltering to 16x

No... I did not use any other fixes other than changing the LightingQuality to "ultrahigh" from "high" in the GameProfile XML. I did do the 16x AF trick once, but I set it back to default a long time ago.

On the pro side they did also fix the blurring problems that AA was causing on the camera, scopes, & CG scenes. AA is working correctly again & no more screen flicker with SLI. The textures are something I broke, & I hope this fresh install fixes that issue. If not I may have to contact Ubi support again for some assistance. However they have never been much help so I hope the fresh install does the trick.

Bit late now I completed it 2 days before gta v was out, but tested today running @4k 60fps it runs very well.

I think they spoiled far cry 4 once you unlock the beast weapons take anything out no problems

I haven't really played it since the SLI flicker issue started over a month ago. I was able to fix the flicker, but it screwed up my textures. I was hoping the patch would fix all of this, but it didn't. If the fresh install doesn't work then I am at a loss.

If the fresh install doesn't work, try re-creating your Windows profile. (pain in the ass, but probably your last resort before an OS re-install)

I will not re-install my OS just for this one game. If the fresh insall of the game doesn't work, & I can't get Ubisoft to help me then I will just be screwed out of a game that I payed for I guess. Sucks because I bought the Gold Edition & I haven't been able to play the Yeti DLC yet. Also I never even made it half way through the main game. If I can't get it to work I will never buy another Ubisoft title. Sucks for them because I have been a good customer for Ubisoft ever since their first game release.
