Far Cry 4
Heavy flickering using SLI with patch 1.9.0
So after getting the update today I was really excited to try the new DLC. However once I got in game everything was flickering very badly. I played around with a lot of settings & found one thing that makes it go away. Swapping from Fullscreen Mode to Borderless Windowed or Windowed mode makes the flickering go away. However this also hits my performance pretty hard as well. I get 10 to 15 less FPS in both Windowed modes. Now if I go back to Fullscreen the flickering is almost gone, but it is still there just a little on darker objects(shadows). I really hope this issue gets addressed quickly.

I am using a laptop with:

i7-4900MQ OCed to 4.0GHz
32GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600MHz
2 x 4GB GTX 780M in SLI
2 x 1TB Samsung 840 EVO SSD
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
WHQL Geforce Driver 347.52

Anyone else getting in game flickering when using SLI on Patch 1.9.0?

Edit: New fix that really does work.

Force Anisotropic filtering to x16 in the Nvidia Control panel, & change AlphaToCoverage="0" and LightingQuality="ultrahigh" in the GamerProfile.xml file.

I tested this fix & it does make the flickering go away. :D:

Thanks to jrmanders on the ubi forums for the fix, & thanks to SOF=-WID99 & mooner for posting the info & a link here in this thread.

Edit 2: It seems that AlphaToCoverage setting doesn't matter. I turned it back on & the flickeing is still gone. Has to be the LightingQuality setting that is causing the issue when set to "high" instead of "ultrahigh"

Wow. Just fired up FC4 for the first time in months. Wanted to test out my new GPU's only to find out Ubisoft broke SLI AGAIN!

Just reporting the above fix works great! Thank you for posting (and updating) this!
Flickering is GONE :)
Bumping this thread so kids aren't making 4322534534 new posts about the same issue.
I wish Ubisoft would devote more attention to an actual fix/patch instead of having their employees wasting time posting on foums that the myriad of user contrived fixes work just fine. A bunch of B.S. Most of the flickering may go away for a while, but at a large loss of graphics quality and FPS.

i have not seen one person from UBI ..suggest /or comment on any of the fixes ..all anyone from ubisoft said is they are aware of the issiue and have sent the issiue to the Dev team to address in an upcoming patch ..no patch details or release date are set

most likley they will wait for Nvidia to release a new driver set would be my guess ...

and all you can do for now is try what the END users have found as a way to allievate the problem

does it suck? .. yes!... but part of the issiue may be tied to Nvida as even when the game shipped in november of last year ................................ things were broken with Nvidia drivers (like soft shadows )..thats pretty bad for an Nvidia game works title

(they also got busted again in the 1.8.0 patch)

and alot of games do ship with busted SLI and its usually fixed with updated drivers..

possibly Nvidia fixes one thing for another game they break what this game had in settings as all games use different engines

(plus i dont trust that geforce experience software..or use it i set my games up whithin the game settings that work the best for my own config ..its llike that AMD EVOLVED crap that used to set my settings all wacky for my other games when i used an AMD card )

and maybe Ubisoft has been playing catch up and failing to use the updates when they do internal testing ..or it may be that the settings in the geforece experience settings are incorrect for all systems ?

im not making excuses for UBI or Nvidia ..just saying that's probably the issiue ..the two of them are not working together properly to iron out all the problems which ..really is unacecptable as SLI has been around over 10 yrs ..same with crossfire

and the game shipped back in november with totally busted crossfire support for AMD users .

we can only hope they will all work together to iron out the problems in the next updates
from both Nvidia as well as Ubisoft .

thats what I say since patch 1.9 was released.
Ubisoft doesn`t care about flickering or problems, they just say everything ist fine or they know the problem and will solve it maybe in winter 2016..

I am afraid of patch 2.0 which makes the game black and white instead of color. And again, Ubisoft will tell us they know about the issur :) and they work on it.

But anyway, why should Ubisoft speed up with their troubleshooting, they already got your money for the game, so everything for Ubisoft is alright.

In future I buy games minimum 6 months or more up the releasing date so the price of the game ist 20-30 Euro. Publisher like Ubisoft hopefully will realize that they can fool us just, because we buy games to early which are not finished programming or free from bugs.
If anybody would buy months later they wouldn`t make the big cash at the beginning and just than those Publisher start to realize they can only be successfull if the gamers buy their games.

Just with your wallet you can tell those people that their working place is very close with the things they sell or people are willing to buy for a product. For me it is clear, 20-30 Euro for every Ubisoft game, more with safety no more.

To all the people from Ubisoft who are responsible for releasing patches which makes Far Cry 4 even worser and worser: I wish you all 3 weeks diarreah and after that a 2 weeks influenza.

and Nvidia got their money when you bought 2 vid cards ..right .. so they are in no hurry either to fix your problem either

all they wanna do is pump out new drivers for new games and screw up whats already out ?
then make a new card that costs $1000 each

most likely they got more cash out of you then a single game did ..umm .. right ?
I have opened a ticket in their support site, then closed because no reaction whatsoever, I think is not my business to look for solutions to solve their broken game issues.
But what are the options here, not much, you are on your own.
For me the game is still broken, also after solving the issue of the flickering, because of the badly fps drop during each explosion or more heavy fight.
I didn't bought this game just to wander through vegetation and shoot here and there one monkey or a bear.
I barely play the arena quests and the main missions, as every time I get an explosion, or 2 3 guys shooting at me at close range or moving around ,all become very messy, the framerate drop to a couple per sec, the sound start to delay by 2 3 seconds, and all I can do is just to wait for everything to return to normal.
That is not called fun, is called game broken.
I have 2 geforce 680M sli, tried all the ways I could google, but no help.
Just a heads up I did open a ticket up with NVidia just to let them know what we were seeing and they responded letting me know that this is an Ubisoft issue and they will need to patch the game. I figured that would be their response since it absolutely is an Ubisoft issue, but I wanted to at least report it to them.

You do realize that the problem we are all having has nothing to do with nVidia's driver right? SLI was working fine in Far Cry 4 before patch 1.9.0. Ubisoft broke SLI in their game with the last patch. nVidia did not break SLI because there was NO new Geforce driver update installed that caused the current flickering issue during the time the SLI flickering issue started. It was the 1.9.0 patch released by Ubisoft that broke SLI in Far Cry 4. Why do you keep blaming nVidia for something Ubisoft did?

Anyone notice seems to happen if use a preset profile like ultra very high and so on seems to flicker again if change any setting to another and save go back to game all is fine again change back to what it was previously save go back to game all fine, but now instead of being ultra or very high and what ever setting you used it says custom. Seems custom is the way to be, it's strange it's bizarre, but again it's playable and n flicker and no blured camera.

Just hope ubi read these posts and can pin point it and fix it with a patch so we don't need mess around no more and just play the game without messing with it anymore.

Can't wait for gta v hope that's OK and can forget fc4 for a while exploring gta v

Yeah they definitely need to step it up. It's been broken for 3 weeks or so - pretty ridiculous. The saddest part is that they obviously didn't test a thing. They just finished the DLC and said "roll it out". No testing, no QA. Someone should be fired for that.
Ubisoft cant have any more moneh from me untill their games are fixed
they got extra coin from me for the deluxe editions and nothing but problems ACU still broken FC4 its getting old and still cant play due to SLi flickering.

What a joke Ubi have become.

if my games were not tied to my Steam account id sell my Ubi account and be done with it.

infact if the game is broken and does not work how is it even fit for sale im thinking they owe me a full refund for a product sure they have the cdkey key back its in my Ubi account so they can take it easy enuff.

I suggest if we want this fixed that is the kind of attitude we need to take up with Ubisoft.
