i just unlocked it again today ..i dont use it i prefer the sand man 45 or the m 79 for a side arm
and maybe the 87 if i need a shotgun for a mission
forgot i did do 5 hostage rescues today to unlock the cannon .. i dont see a 44 mag listed
in the games weapon list posted here
http://www.ign.com/wikis/far-cry-4/Weapons
I've got it but can't remember how, it also seems to be listed on some sites and not others, here are two references for it
http://www.primagames.com/games/far-cry-4/tips/best-weapons-far-cry-4-elephant-gun-flamethrower-m-79
http://www.supercheats.com/far-cry-4/walkthrough/weapons-catalog
The bottom link claims it is unlocked by progressing the story.
I'll have to check out the Sandman 45 and the m79 then, asI thought the Cannon was the best handgun in the core game. Once I got the autoshot crossbow though, I haven't even thought about carrying a pistol.
IMHO, I think letting the player carry the single-shot grenade launcher as a "handgun" is extremely OP, as I can rule most situations with it, and the fact that I can quick-draw it while driving down the road at breakneck speeds and then sling a grenade round at an approaching vehicle and completely wreck its day... it's insanely OP. But, I'm not complaining as it would be a nightmare to have to carry out a lengthy battle with a random passing truck every time one went whizzing by. Now, I can just lob one shot at it and usually keep going without slowing down. :-P
I got the Sandman a few days ago with the Hurk DLC, it rocks, I can't stop using it, I'm currently just going around Reset Outposts, taking them out with just the Sandman (not copters though :)) .
Totally agree about the granade launcher but it was fun, I don't use it anymore though.
