I've played through the campaign at least 5 times now and it's still fun (minus a few annoyances, like having to hunt for skins to craft stuff) so in my opinion it's definitely worth it.
Note: Just make sure your PC can run it... Mine runs it flawlessly but a lot of people seem to have issues.
The collectible serial killer mask quest is a poorly done end. Lots of buildup with nothing real story wise to show for it.
The collectible wall painting campaign is pretty cool (game play changes up) and the letter collection quest that ties into the painting is a bit interesting.
FC3's protagonist Jason Brody was a mess, a whiney, annoying, entitled rich kid who goes all Oliver Queen with the help of magic island tatoos and not 5 years of having to survive on an island filled with things trying to kill him. Even his motivation vanishes about halfway through the game and he suddenly, rather than getting ont he boat and escaping with his friends, becomes a sociopathic murdering lunatic who goes all Appocalypse Now Native, and after spending half the game frantically trying to save his friends (spoiler alert) subsequently murders them in one of the endings just for that sweet island lovins, murders his brother, girlfriend and 2 best friends all becuase some half naked island girl wants him to stay and give her his prophecy babies. (when the devs admit their story was garbage, you know its crap)
FC4's protagonist is a native of the region, his parents were intimatley involved in the goings on of Kyrat and the backstory revolves around them and Pagan Min. Ajay has a reason to be there and a reason to get involved. FC4 story is to FC3s the way Black Flag was to AC3. All the techincal improvements of 3 and them some (game is far better mechanically as well) and none of the nonsense fanfic that passes for a story.
