Is Far Cry 4 worth playing for the storyline?
I'm no fan of the Ubisoft-style "open world" games cause the side quests are just basically repetitive side missions and collectible hunting that added little if at all any value to the main story.

As such, unless a certain type of side-mission style interests me, I just play through the story.

So my question is, if I were to mainly get the game for the story, how is it? Is the story engaging, and at least decent to warrant a playthrough?

Thanks!

I personally think it's worth it. I liked the story in 4 a lot more than that lame story in 3, but then again a lot of people hate 4 for some reason, so it's all a matter of opinion.

I've played through the campaign at least 5 times now and it's still fun (minus a few annoyances, like having to hunt for skins to craft stuff) so in my opinion it's definitely worth it.

Note: Just make sure your PC can run it... Mine runs it flawlessly but a lot of people seem to have issues.

I like the main story and the Longius side quest story. The main story has a few endings, the simplest one is to do excatly what the Pagan Min asks you to do in the beginning of the game. It takes 10 minutes of waiting or so. The main story is better than FC3 but in my opinion FC2 was the best one.

The collectible serial killer mask quest is a poorly done end. Lots of buildup with nothing real story wise to show for it.
The collectible wall painting campaign is pretty cool (game play changes up) and the letter collection quest that ties into the painting is a bit interesting.

I enjoyed it. The multiplayer, if that's what you're looking for, is full of hackers. The story itaself, is good. Lots of things to do and there are alos some good Ubisoft maps & player created maps, that are a good challenge for you.

I think it takes a huge turn for the worse after about halfway through. It starts getting seriously ponderous and starts riffing on ''exotic" Eastern stuff, but in a haphazard, nonsensical way. I found this coincided with strange and inconsistent difficulty spikes, and there are a few fairly pointless detours. I sound a bit sour because I spent the last two weeks having a ball with it, but now I'm pretty burned out by the direction it's taken....

Eh 3 the protagionist seems to evolve alot better than 4's. 4 worth playing although.

4's story is vastly superior and makes way more sense than the nonsense Dances with Samurai (for those missing the reference, Dances with Wolves and The Last Samurai, same movie, just replace Native Americans with Japanese) rehash foreigner rich entitled kid saves teh natives garbage that was 3.

FC3's protagonist Jason Brody was a mess, a whiney, annoying, entitled rich kid who goes all Oliver Queen with the help of magic island tatoos and not 5 years of having to survive on an island filled with things trying to kill him. Even his motivation vanishes about halfway through the game and he suddenly, rather than getting ont he boat and escaping with his friends, becomes a sociopathic murdering lunatic who goes all Appocalypse Now Native, and after spending half the game frantically trying to save his friends (spoiler alert) subsequently murders them in one of the endings just for that sweet island lovins, murders his brother, girlfriend and 2 best friends all becuase some half naked island girl wants him to stay and give her his prophecy babies. (when the devs admit their story was garbage, you know its crap)

FC4's protagonist is a native of the region, his parents were intimatley involved in the goings on of Kyrat and the backstory revolves around them and Pagan Min. Ajay has a reason to be there and a reason to get involved. FC4 story is to FC3s the way Black Flag was to AC3. All the techincal improvements of 3 and them some (game is far better mechanically as well) and none of the nonsense fanfic that passes for a story.
