It will look better even if you compromise for 2k, the fnier details for the trees/plants shows up alot better at 1440p, and gets rid of the need to run performancing sapping levels of AA
I play it at 3840x2400 and the detail level is great - especially with how precise the tree detail is at distance.

game looks fine to me and plays stutter free on my system with zero crashes
if you got stutter open Nvidia control panel
go to manage 3d settings
under global set ansiotropic filtering to 16X
set Power management mode to Prefer maximum Performance
set Max Pre Rendered frames to 1 or 3
a GTX 960 is not going to perform well in 1440 P , for that you'll need at least a GTX 970 or better with Far Cry 4
