try changing your settings for AO to SSBC
soft shadows causes a huge performance impact set those to Ultra
god rays can also cause the game to crash same with the Fur setting
the Nvidia gameworks settings got borked months ago in the Nvidia drivers

It's not really as bad as you might imagine. The NPC's are not "glowing" with like bloom on them or something, they just appear much brighter than their surrounding.
More or less, it just doesn't appear that shadows are casting on other NPC's, specifically near cliffs (where shadows loom over), the woods, and at night. The NPC's just seem to be too bright. This goes for either humans, or animals.
Interestingly, and I know this is off-topic, but I've noticed this same problem with Battlefield 4, even on my old R9 270 card and after multiple driver updates. Battlefield 3 on the other hand casted shadows pretty much perfectly.
I.E - If I'm looking at someone standing inside a dark and shadowy building looking out a window or a door, they are relatively hard to see in BF3. Whereas in BF4, the shadows barely cast on the player and the character model seems to "pop" from the surrounding environment. The lighting in BF4 has always seemed terribly bad.
Anyway, that's why I was asking about Far Cry 4 specifically. It could very well be poor lighting mechanics on part of the developers, or it could just be me. Either way, if there is a fix maybe on Far Cry 4 Nexus or something of the sort, that would be great. It's making it very easy to spot enemies.
and make some magic gameworks or raptr \ crimson \ driver feature work for the next game out.... that ends up it breaks other games with the drivers
(we already saw that with the AMD 15.11 drivers ..as well as the nvidia gameworks settings )
\nvidia busted the game works settings \ AMD acually busted the drivers so bad it would crash the game on launch ..
the dev teams cant keep up with this ....and there is no DX 12 support for this game .. to add it would involve recodeing the entire game to support such things
and right now ubi is already working on the next Far Cry game
and the same is true with the nvidia side of things and the GTX 980 Ti cards
you cant use older drivers that are more stable ...
it may just be that yes microsoft wants us all on windows 10 for a reason .. so we can have a unified driver set that works with games with differnt cards on one PC ..and thats whats screwing up all the recent drivers ? (DX 12 is supposed to bring this as well as better video memory support \ i e your two cards share memory and you have full acess to it )
(and yes i have seen that pulled off with the ashes of sigularity game )
microsoft did say DX 12 was gonna be a game changer .. but right now .. it may be a game breaker ..with the drivers we have to use , with current games and GPU's that have been released (sli seems busted as does crossfire in some titles under win 10)
is all this frustrating ? yes ,,but its all part of gameing on a PC ..its been that way for decades , and its never easy .. untill you find the config thats right for your hardware for NOW .
and yes that ,means backdating your drivers and trying different settings for your games and applications
and anyone that says ok well i'm not running windows 10 ..guess what .. the drivers for WIN 7 and 8 are probably considered legacy drivers ..and not gonna get the attention Windows 10 drivers and driver model wdm 2.0 and the direct X 12 drivers will
tech moves forward ..not backward ..its been that way for decades ..and i dont think it's gonna change
Its not too bright mind you so some people might not even notice this and say their game looks fine.
But everyone has this glow i saw it on screenshots , gameplay videos i also thought it was my GPU or drivers but nah. Its a bit easier to spot the lower your Post FX settings are.
Its mostly from very far distances and mostly during night or in very shadowy areas.
Not driver's faul its this game's fault
Neither Far Cry 3 or Far Cry Primal ( Idk about 5 ) have this problem distant enemies at night or dark areas don't appear a bit brighter the further away you are in those games.
Its also same reason why nights in this game are quite bright and feel more like early mornings. They just screwed up the lighting.
Something you gotta get used to i'm afraid.
Unless there is tweak or mod that fixes this?
Which i had no luck finding.
EDIT:
A bit unrelated but i just remembered Fallout 4 had the same issue with "glowing" NPC's in darker areas but you could fix it with enboost
Aye this guy knows what hes talking about!
Nights can beautiful if done right.
I hate nights in Far Cry 4 because they look ugly as heck i skip to day whenever night is about to start. Cause that ugly puke green and weird looking illumination on the terrain aswell as this feint NPC glow irks me to no end.
How can you ruin night time like that in otherwise very beautiful and atmospheric game :(
Far Cry 3 and Far Cry Primal have very beautiful nights especially Primal since it gets really dark and atmospheric.
