Saving progress, this is an absolute joke.
Is there a way to actually save progress in this game without having to complete a main mission objective? I've just wasted 4 hours attempting the first rescue captives mission in the game, every time I've failed it's put me right back to where I was, no skills or crafting/purchasing upgrades saved at all, this is seeming like a complete waste of time.
I'd be better off going back to farcry 3 and just taking out all the remaining outposts than wasting time on this piece of ♥♥♥♥.

you can not save during a mission , complete the mission and fast travel to a safe house then save
far cry 3 worked the same way

if your trying to take over an outpost .. you can not save until you have conquered it
when you do , go to the safe house in the outpost (look for a red door) , there you can create a save

if you quit the game in the middle of a mission it does not save your progress until you complete the mission (again same as FC3)

the first rescue the hostages mission is easy ..use a bow and your throwing knives , or if you bought the gold edition or the Hurk Deluxe DLC Pak you have the silenced sandman .45 pistol to use ..when you get the chance upgrade your bow from the hunter bow to the compound bow and put the dot sight on it ..this helps

on all hostage and bomb disfuse missions stay out of sight and undetected ..use stealth and silent weapons are your best bet ..also use your camera (z key) to scope out the area so you know where the bad guys are , again same as Far Cry 3 ..if aniamls attack you .. throw bait to distract them (something Far Cry 3 was missing) , sometimes they will take out the bad guys for you , not reccomended in hostage missions ,, as the anaimals may kill the hostages too

with hostage missions remember to throw rocks to distract the bad guys .. you may get the chance to knife one in the back , or a better shot with an arrow ...if you alert the guards they will kill the hostages , on bomb missions they will trigger the timers on the bombs ..use stealth

yeah it autostarts the hostage mission though, which is an absolute pain in the ass as my stats are ♥♥♥♥ and wanted to upgrade/explore some before going in. If it's going to do this the entire way through the game then it's basically just going to railroad me into doing mission after mission with no time for sidequests, upgrades and generally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about, which is half the fun of sandbox games.

if you wish to not finish a mission simply hit your escape key

select abandon mission ..you can go back later to complete it .. but you must start it over again after you go do what ever it is you need to do .. like get a better loadout from your last outpost store, or go hunting and crafting or upgradeing your weapons or taking over more towers and outposts

a good trick early in the game ..fly to the tower east of barnali's outpost its up near the north

it is not guarded by red army .. its guarded by Pagans royal guard , if you use the mini copter and fly up near that tower and stay low and out of sight .. you can do a takedown on 1 of two snipers there .. take the rifle they drop it'll be the Z 93 ..one of the best sniper guns ..use fast travel to go back to an outpost you already took

you can fit it with upgraded optics as well as a silencer

it'll help taking down big game as well as help in missions when you need a good silent rifle , such as taking outposts undetected . bomb missions , and hostage rescue

there's no abandon mission option either, only a restart mission with 'unsaved progress will be lost'

you have not played the game far enough then.. have you taken over the second outpost ?

it has an elephant in it and after you take that you meet Hurk for the first time

have you gotten that far ?

your right you have not getten far enough

you have to beat that hostage mission FIRST ... my bad ...

just use stealth stay crouched that one guy by the fence wont see you and you can sneak up and whip a knife at him , remember to use your camera like i said so you know where the bad guys are and use silent weapons

after you rescue the hostages then you will get a call on the radio to take over an outpost

also remember to use the elephant at the outpost ..just set him free from his cage , hide and watch the carnage :)

after you take that out post you will meet hurk and ACT one is complete ..you can then do open world stuff , get the mini copter and co op will be unlocked

if ya get stuck look up a walkthru ..like here
http://www.ign.com/wikis/far-cry-4/Hostage_Negotiation

and again its pretty much like FC3 was ..you could only do open world things once you take over your first outpost by force

This game just has ubisoft shoddyness written all over it so far, I've put through for a refund to my steam wallet on the grounds stated above and that its a complete piece of ♥♥♥♥, if I get a refund I'll just put it in towards just cause 3, if not I'll give these stupid intro missions a serious go. After FC3 this so far has just been one huge disappointment, especially with all the later game bug references I keep finding randomly about karma and save problems after the main storyline has finished.
Cheers for the help man, hoping FC Primal might be better off done but from the looks of things they've fired all the people who made FC3 the awesome game it is.

well thats your opinion .. me i liked the game , one of the best Far Cry games if ya ask me but i have played it a lot more then you have , it does get better once ya play longer and upgrade your stuff , same as Far Cry 3 , and there is a ton of gameplay in it , as well as replay value , i been playing it since it shipped last year

and i had pretty much Zero problems other then bad Nvidia driver support and a few bugs here and there with the valley of the Yeti DLC

primal will be mostly stealth it looks like

and a far cry with no guns ..no thanks ..

once I got the hang of the grappling hooks I kinda got over the whole annoyance that is all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hills and I guess once falling damage is reduced that'll be pretty much a non issue, it's just this stupid savegame system that's been ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ me, having to spend 10 minutes traversing the damn map to complete an objective that'll very easily fail you and send you right back to the start is just straight up annoying, hell, they even had that kinda crap fixed in the early final fantasy games with save spots right before boss fights.
About the only game that gets a pass on that kinda behaviour in my book is Dark Souls, because that game was designed by sadists and you know exactly what your buying into.

looks like I'm stuck with this, if I manage to find a way to improve upon the savegame system will post.

Checkpoint saving mechanism is a cancerous design carried over from consoles. Not that I actually hate consoles, but over the years the platform sure has made game developers brought forth some real silly stuff.

yah one of the reasons I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ragequit last time I attempted to play, ran around for ages crafting up stuff, finding locations, go to finish the first hostage mission that it autostarts and wont let me avoid, snipe the guards except 1 who I finish off with a machinegun headshot then two bad guys appear out of nowhere and kill 3 hostages in about 15 seconds resetting about an hour and a half of exploration, hunting and game time. If it'd just put me back to just outside the combat zone WITHOUT TAKING AWAY ALL OF THE ♥♥♥♥ I SPENT AGES COLLECTING there would be no problems, no problems at all.
bentedge27 Dec 9, 2015 @ 3:45am
or, if the freed hostages had enough common sense not to stand around in the middle of a gunfight like ♥♥♥♥♥ in an american highschool shooting that'd be kind of alright.

very glad I didn't spend the 80US on this game when it first came out.
