FPS Lock on 30FPS
Hello, I bought Far Cry 4 during the current Steam summer sale and I have a problem with it. After launching and starting the game, I get a constant 30 FPS. I'm playing with V-Sync enabled, but even when I disable it, the FPS stays at 30. I've tried almost everything and spent around 5 hours on it, but nothing has worked. I changed the config, in-game settings, and the NVIDIA Control Panel. My specs are:
Ryzen 7 2700x
GTX 1660Ti
8GB RAM 2666MHz.

Someone help me plz

remember this games last patch for FC 4 was in 2015 years before your CPU was even on the market

You have different Vsync settings check em out
Dont use spares i think that locks it to 30fps as its half
kvzk Jun 30, 2024 @ 9:46am
i don’t use spare, it’s on normal
In nvidia cp also

#1 turn off Nvidia game works options in video settings for FC 4

PCSS soft shadows alone will eat your FPS

try other settings for AO also as HBAO + may be too high

you never mention what resolution you are trying to play at // i HOPE Its not 4 k as a 1660 ti card is not enough for 4 K

here are the settings i use

Intel Kaby Lake I5 7600K @ 4.4 GHZ <(via asus auto tune in my bios )
Cooler Master 212 Hyper evo \ 120 MM RED led fan
ASUS ROG STRIX z270 H GAMING motherboard
16 gig of Crucial Ballistic Sport DDR 4 2400 ram\ 4 X 4 gig dimms <(in dual channel mode)
(old GPU..Gigabyte Windforce 2 GTX 1060 OC model \ 6 gig vid card )

*CURRENT GPU EVGA RTX 3060 12 gig gaming Edition *

500 gig Samsung 840 EVO SSD \ boot drive
2 TB Toshiba HDD storage drive \ 7200 RPM 64 meg cache
LG DVD burner
Thermaltake Versa V 22 special edition case \4 120 mm CoolerMaster fans + 1 yellow exhaust fan by GPU
Thermaltake 500 WATT 80+ Gold power supply
Seiki LC40G81 40" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV + 32 inch 1440 P screen
Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

Again my in Game settings are set to Custom
resolution 2560 X 1440
vsync - on
Quality settings
motion blur off - not a fan of it ..
Textures - Ultra
Shadows -Ultra <--- (Nvidia PCSS Soft Shadows will kill your FPS )
Post FX -Ultra
Geometry - Ultra
Vegetation- Ultra
Environment - Ultra
Water - Ultra
Ambient Occusion setting is SSBC
Antialising settings is SMAA
God rays - off- not a fan of how it looks (can make the game unstable..even on Titan X and GTX 980 Ti cards )
Fur - off
Trees relief -on
in Advanced settings
Triple buffering - off
Vsync mode - Normal

in Nvidia control panel, i made these changes
Anisotropic Filtering = 16 X

Set Power Management Mode = Prefer Max performance

Again ,game looks fine to me and plays stutter free on my system with zero crashes

-=SOF=-WID99 Jun 30, 2024 @ 10:29am
dunno the game runs great here even on my old rig with a intel quad core q 9650 and my old GTX 1060 6 gig card installed in 1080 P

System 2
Asus P5 B plain not anything just default P5B old as dirt mainboard From 2009
CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 @ 3.60 Ghz with a tuniq tower 120 cooler
8 Gig of Kingston DDR 2 800 4 - 2 gig sticks timing is 6-6-6-18
Asus STRIX GTX 960 2 gig card (nvidia driver 347.52 for win 7/ 10 ..using Nvidia win 10 Driver 359.06)
current GPU Gigabyte windforce 2 GTX 1060 6 gig card current driver 472.12
Soundblaster live 24 bit sound card i scrapped out of someones old Dell they were chucking
(onboard realtek sound on motherboard =disabled )
OS = Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit / Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit

For Far Cry 4

my in Game settings are Custom
resolution 1920 X 1080
vsync - off
Quality settings
motion blur off - not a fan of it ..
Textures - Ultra
Shadows - High <--- (Nvidia PCSS Soft Shadows will kill your FPS )
Post FX -Ultra
Geometry - Very High
Vegetation- Ultra
Environment - High
Water - Ultra
Ambient Occlusion setting is SSBC
Antialising settings is SMAA
God rays - off- not a fan of how it looks (can make the game unstable..even on Titan X and GTX 980 Ti cards )
Fur - on
Trees relief -on
in Advanced settings
Triple buffering - off
Vsync mode - Normal

in Nvidia control panel, i made these changes
Anisotropic Filtering = 16 X

Max Pre Rendered Frames = 1 <------- Nvidia tuned up their Max Pre-Rendered Frames and re-branded it as Ultra-Low Latency Mode now ..

Set Power Management Mode = Prefer max Performance

again game looks fine to me and plays stutter free on my system with zero crashes and i'm well over 60 FPS according to the in game FPS counter

did ya try a clean boot .. if that dont help i would definitely go snag DDU

and reinstall my video Drivers with a new clean copy

https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/How-use-Display-Driver-Uninstaller-DDU-Guide-Tutorial#google_vignette

also try an older driver .. the latest drivers are no longer optimizing for 1660 series most likely as the 3000 and 4000 series cards are out now with the 5000 ones coming

i always stick to older drivers for my vid cards .. if it works dont screw with it

and i never trust geforce EXP to install any drivers .. at all on my system

nvidia has screwed up drivers before in the past ..many times with this title

quality settings will not change your FPS

your GPU is capable enough to run the game in 1080 P at the highest settings .. just shut off the Nvidia game works options and use other settings

a 1660 ti should have a lil more UMFFF than even my old GTX 1060 factory overclocked card .. unless your on a laptop

if your PC is a laptop its probably running too hot ..
