Game Freezing
I've had FarCry4 now for a few years and it's played flawlessly for all of that time. However this last few weeks it freezes every so often, seemingly just at random. I could be walking, fighting, buying new weapons, there's no real trigger that I can see. It totally locks up and so far after a 30 minute wait, despite audio continuing, the video was just frozen. I've only got it on medium as I've always run it on. I've validated steam game files, checked for viruses, reinstalled iris graphics driver, even done a chkdsk on the hard drive. There's nothing amiss and yet still it freezes at random intervals. anyone know what's going on?

The issue is part of how many CPU cores you have vs what the FC3 or FC4 was made on or something like that. I ran into this same issue on both FC4 and FC5 and after trying many things I found a fix. You have to tell windows to only run the game on four cores.
Start FC4 > wait till main opening game menu > Ctrl, Alt, Del = task manager > Details > find farcry4.exe (should be alphabetical) > right click > set affinity > uncheck all but four cpu cores. Go back to FC4.
For me since I have an I7 CPU, I unchecked cores 0-3 and left cores 4-7 checked. Other people in chats stated that core 0 causes some issue with FPS and that when unchecked they saw a raise in FPS. I couldn’t care less for the freezing went away for me.
* You’ll have to do this Every time you play the game unless you write your own batch file, didn’t know how to do that myself, or trust some of the free software that’ll save your cpu core selection for you, which I didn’t trust myself. You can google software if you’re interested but for me, a simple 40 sec fix works just fine for me.

I shall give that a try this week, thanks for letting me know.
Thanks for the tip, I had the same issues as the OP. I was getting desperate to play this game. After reducing my CPU to 4 cores the game runs normally.

This game is unable to manage more than 4 cores. Incredible :steamsad:

I looked further into this issue after playing fc5 and found it was more of an issue with Win11 managing cpu cores than the fc series. either way, its a fix that we gamers shouldn't have to deal with.
