Far Cry 4 crashes on startup splash screen
So I bought Far Cry 4, but every time I start it, it hangs and crashes right when the black FarCry4 splash screen pops up. System info is below, but it's a Windows 10 machine with more than enough power to run this game.

I've done the following.
1. Ran everything as Admin
2. Ran as compatibility mode for every windows version
3. checked directx/net framework/etc, all there and current version
4. updated Nvidia quadro driver to latest, also rolled it back to multiple previous drivers dating back a year.
5. uninstalled/reinstalled
6. made sure it was installed on the same drive as OS

I've gone through the sticky post on this forum and tried everything in there with no luck. I'm feeling like it's an issue with the Quadro card maybe? Anyone have any advise or help they can offer. I'd love to play this game, but it won't even start.

possibly unsupported CPU ????

contact Ubisoft Support as i do not know if the game will run with your current OVER KILL .cfg

or if it will even recognize a Quadro card or your 20 core CPU which i'm guessing is has multiple XEON CPU's

Quadro graphics cards are usually used on high end graphic workstations

you have to contact Ubisoft Support to find out


this page says the Quadro K6000 is 1 - 10 % slower then a GTX 780 ti in games

but if its as fast as that it should be able to at least launch and play the game ?

can't say tho as i never tried to use a work station CAD card for games ..you'll have to like i said ask Ubisoft

Yeah, the computer is my work machine and I do motion graphics and 3d work. So the Quadro is a dream for that, and never had issues before. I'll hit up Ubisoft Support to see what they say.

Ah, bummer. The issue lies with the Quadro k6000 and it being a workstation graphics card. The engine used for FC titles doesn't play well with those cards, oh well.

would have been great if it worked with 12 gig for a frame buffer and that many Cuda cores
you'd think it would at least perform as well as at least GTX 780ti which was the top card back when the k 6000 came out

Just in case, try disabling the uPlay in-game over lay (in the uPlay app, Settings -> General -> unclick Enable in-game overlay for supported games) before getting a new graphics card.

I've played FC4 on a comp with a horrid graphics card that's supposedly not supported, and it worked mildly well in the past. However, from the crash you describe it could be too many in-game overlays (seems when uPlay + Steam + other 3rd party apps try to all do overlays, the game will crash shortly after the initial splash screen when the game window initializes). Worse case, disable them all and see if that helps, as I've tried pretty much every remedy when my game started acting this way out of nowhere, and this fixed it.

I have a Z820 workstation with 16 physical cores (32 logical cores), 128GB of memory, GTX 980TI, running windows 10. I have had the same issue where the game would start up (initial Farcry splash screen) and then hang and stop responding. Ubisoft support was useless. I wasted hours and hours trying to figure out the problem. Finally came across an obscure post that talked about this game having problems with too many cores. I disabled 8 cores using msconfig in windows and the game worked. I can't believe that Ubisoft doesn't either fix their code to support more than 8 cores or post in their specs that their is a maximum supported core count. I have run many different games on this machine with no issues, so too many cores was the last thing I ever thought about.

After disabling the 8 cores, Farcry 3 also worked which I had given up on this machine long ago.

The max cores supported for this game should at least be put in the troubleshooting sticky on this forum so that others with similar high end systems know how to resolve this problem.

alpinestart, I do not know if 10 physical cores would be supported in your system, but you can first try disabling one of the CPU's then if that doesn't work reduce the cores from there until the game works.
