Are you guys sure? That seems like nonsense. For instance, a while ago I got Watch_Dogs for free on the Epic Store. When I ran it the first time, it installed Ubisoft Connect and activated on there, and I was later able to install it directly from Ubisoft without needing the Epic launcher installed.
Was hoping this would be the case with Steam as well, but I don't really want to have to download a 30 gig game twice just to try it.
i bought the game the night it shipped in 2014 on steam ..price then was %59.99 and yes you need both steam and UBI Connect open to load and run the game
a month layer i added the season pass for $29.99 = i have the same as FAR CRY 4 GOLD ..all DLC included on STEAM
years later i bought a another copy of the game
this time on the ubi shop for like 12 bucks for a gold edition / yes that copy runs with only UBI connect open
my steam copy nope you must have both steam and ubi connect open
had you bought the title on ubi connect or any other online site it would only require UBI connect
Steam also changes the folder locations the game will install to as well as the save file folder location number to lock you into only buying your DLC on steam so they get their 30 % cut of your cash of any sale of added content
the steam version of the game, saves your game to
C:\ Program files X86 \ Ubisoft \ Ubisoft game launcher \savegames \ *a folder with a long series
of letters and numbers Varies from system to system* \ 856
the Uplay only version they are in
C:\ Program files X86 \ Ubisoft \ Ubisoft game launcher \savegames \ *a folder with a long series
of letters and numbers Varies from system to system* \ 420
also the UBI connect version comes with a working version of the far cry 4 map edit program ..
steam botched its version back in march 2019 with some odd patch ubi only users never got .. and now if you open it with a steam copy ...it bricks your game till you edit your system registry
.. details on how to fix it are found in the steam far cry 4 player support section in the FAR CRY 4 TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS SECTION and a link to Steve 64B's registry fix ..yes you have to re run it every time if you open or use the map editor on a steam copy
These requirements are usually listed on our Store page, but we are in the process of trying to make these requirements more clear like we have done so on some of our other store pages like AC Odyssey. Thank you all for your feedback on this.
