please do the following if your posting about an issiue with a game crashing or not starting,
post your FULL Steam System info .. this helps ... as no one can say what your problem may be until we know all of whats involved.. on YOUR system , we would only be guessing ....Ok ? thanks !
now look up top in steam look for where it says Help (right above the word LIBRARY)
(you will need to exit big picture mode if you have it active in Steam)
clik on that (it will open a drop down menu)
then clik system information
let that load , only takes a few seconds
once that loads with your system information
right clik on that window
then select all
then right clik again select copy
then when you post back
right clik and select paste on your reply
if its a laptop it may be your touch pad driver is getting in the way
try disabeling it (usually its a combo FN key on laptops to shut off the touch pad )
and use a normal mouse
After contacting the customer support a second time, they suggested checking all active services in the "System Configuration" tool in Windows as well as the programs that are active in the system autostart section.
So after restarting my (tower) PC a couple of times with different services and programs active each time, I found out that Overwolf was causing this really weird bug and killing all of its processes or uninstalling Overwolf all together solved the problem.
Anyways, thank you for your response.
i added overwolf months ago to the tips list of problematic applications
.listed at the top of this forum when others reported a problem with it
copy an paste from the tips section :
10. BACKROUND APPLICATIONS may also cause the game to not launch properly and you may need Exit out of them, or reconfigure them to work properly with Far Cry 4 known apps that can cause this are
A. EVGA PRECISION
B. MSI AFTERBURNER
C. Riva Tuner Statistics Server
D. DXtory
E. Motionin Joy
F. Anti Virus or Firewall software (AVG , comodo, bullguard, ect < --- check your settings
G. MSI True Color
H. Evolve gameing client
I. AMD Raptr \ AMD Gaming Evolved
J. TeamVeiwer
K. Overwolf < --------------------
L. Nvidia Geforce Experience Shadow Play
see this thred to possibly fix problems with afterburner causeing black screen

Please ALSO see this Page where it mentions Backround Applications in section 4 and how you can try to see if one you have running is possibly causeing your issiue with the game NOT starting or hanging on launch

Thanks
some people also shut off the steam in game overlay .. i do ..but i keeop thr uplay in game overlay so i can use the FPS counter ... some have better luck with shutting off all in game overlays including the uplay overlay
got no clue what your KB issue is man as i have no clue if your KB is wired or wireless or a gameing one .. i still use an old mechanical KB ..they have the best repsonce if you'd ask me
and yep connects via PS2 port ..seems less laggy then the USB ones i bought in the past few years and i like the keys better ..they stay snappy ...and i have seen the same ones as mine sell for under 20 bucks on e bay \, the letters never get screwed up on the keys and i just like it
its an old compaq KB
my advise check your usb port if your KB is connectied via USB try another usb port and make sure if its a gameing one you have installed any special drivers that come with it
overwolf by the way = this software
https://www.overwolf.com/
if you have it make sure you remove it when ya play FC 4 as some users did report it caused the game to hang on launch ..and not load ,,as it creates an added in game overlay ..you either need to configure its settings or exit overwolf before you launch the game
Anyway Thanks
resolution 2560X1440= 1440 P \\\\ since you have a GTX 1080 \\\.i use 1080 P since i only have a GTX 1060 6 gig card
vsync - on..try off and see if you get screen tearing i see very little on my 40 in screen as its a 120 HZ screen
Quality settings
motion blur off - not a fan of it ..here anyway
Textures - Ultra
Shadows -Ultra <--- (Nvidia PCSS Soft Shadows will kill your FPS )
Post FX -Ultra
Geometry - Ultra
Vegetation- Ultra
Environment - Ultra
Water - Ultra
Ambient Occusion setting is SSBC
Antialising settings is SMAA
God rays - off- not a fan of how it looks (can make the game unstable..even on Titan X and GTX 980 Ti cards but with recent nvidia drivers on with my GTX 1060 works fine )
Fur - on ..not simulated
Trees relief -on
in Advanced settings
Triple buffering - off
Vsync mode - Normal
in Nvidia control panel, i made these changes for far cry 4 under 3d settings \ program settings
Anisotropic Filtering = 16 X
Max Pre Rendered Frames = 1
Set Power Management Mode = Prefer Max performance
i did install Razer Cortex game booster version 7.0 as it does seem to help with this game
http://www.filehorse.com/download-game-booster/old-versions/
*(note newer versions of cortex do not seen to work as well , at least for me so i stick with 7.0 )
all coretex does is suspend a few windows services that may comsume ram that your game can really use ..exit your game those winblows services reload , yea you may need to manually add your game in cortex
i also NEVER NEVER install geforce experience with any Nvidia driver and always use DDU to clean my drivers before ttrying a new one
when i install my Nvidia drivers i choose custom install and check the box that says perform a CLEAN intall
i never install 3 d vision .. since to use it you need a 3d supported screen + the Nvidia 3 d vision glasses ..do you own those .. ? if not why install software you'll never use ?
so thats 2 boxes to uncheck + geforce ESXP = 3 boxes you uncheck on an Nvidia driver install
HDMI audio and Physics i always install
then after .. i reboot and disable all the HDMI audio
i only need that when i wanna watch a movie on my TV ..\" gameing i use my PC speakers and the audio chip on my ASUS motherboard
dunno why your getting any issue with your system Sir as i did not build it ..here the game has run flawless ..on the 5 dfiffernt system i have used / built or bought since the games ship date of Nov 18th 2014
you can find the list of supported resolutions here
http://www.wsgf.org/dr/far-cry-4/en
remember this game shipped in 2014 ..not 2017 so your 4 k setting may vary on a single GPU
id shoot for 2560x1440 and then enable Nvidia DSR to reach 4 k , since i do not think FC 4 shipped with 4 K full support for the screens we have avaliable now
if your not farmiliar with Nvidia DSR .. google it ..
and yes your GPU supports it ..i know mine does and its a measly GTX 1060 6 gig card
https://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/dsr/technology
Anyway Thanks.
