Does Far Cry 4 run OK now on GTX 980?
Hello! Users of GTX980 may know the problem of random crashes of Far Cry 4 (one crash per hour on average). Internet is full of complaints that it randomly crashed, butt most of them are 2 years old. I wonder - was it already fixed? The game is on sale now and I could use an advice... THX

ran fine with my GTX 960 as well as it runs fine on my GTX 1060 ..
keep the nvidia game works settings off

the 980 was not the problem people setting the graphic setting up wrong was the issue
the nvidia game works options were busted by Nvidia in the drivers years ago

do not use Nvidia geforce experience to set up your game

nvidia god rays will make the game unstable

use volumetric fog

PCSS soft shadows will half your FPS

use Ultra for your shadow settings

use of other settings........... and the game will run stable

So god rays you say? But is it only GTX980 issue or overall issue? Do you KNOW that it will not crash on 980 after turning this crap off? Thank you for response! I'm a step closer towards buying the game.

They also talk about TXAA, that's pretty sad, because FC4 looks very nice with it turned on.

here are my in game settings .. i have zero problems with the game

fc 4

my in Game settings are set to Custom
resolution 1920 X 1080
vsync - on
Quality settings
motion blur off - not a fan of it ..
Textures - Ultra
Shadows -Ultra <--- (Nvidia PCSS Soft Shadows will kill your FPS )
Post FX -Ultra
Geometry - Ultra
Vegetation- Ultra
Environment - Ultra
Water - Ultra
Ambient Occusion setting is SSBC
Antialising settings is SMAA
God rays - off- not a fan of how it looks (can make the game unstable..even on Titan X and GTX 980 Ti cards )
Fur - on
Trees relief -on
in Advanced settings
Triple buffering - off
Vsync mode - Normal

in Nvidia control panel, i made these changes
Anisotropic Filtering = 16 X
Max Pre Rendered Frames = 1 or 3
Set Power Management Mode = Prefer Max performance

game looks fine to me and plays stutter free on my system with zero crashes

i did install Razer Cortex game booster version 7.0 as it does seem to help with this game
http://www.filehorse.com/download-game-booster/old-versions/
*(note newer versions of cortex do not seen to work as well , at least for me so i stick with 7.0 )

I'll experiment with TXAA and see if it crashes because it looks great, but thanks for the damn god rays. I'm gonna buy it in a minute!

you should have no prob with a 980 ... that card is about = to my 6 gig GTX 1060
i use Nvidia driver 388.13 .as that seems best for all my games .. new nvidia drivers run ACO like crap on my gigabyte card .. so i stuck with the last one on my vid cards support page

i thnk its cuz my GPU is factory overclocked ..and Nvidia reference drivers also gave me problems on my old Strix GTX 960 since that was also heavily factory overclocked

so i always get my drivers from my card makers site and never install GF exp

just the vid drivers and Physx under custom install

i can set my own games up the way i wanna see em .. and play em and do not need extra nvidia bloatware or trackware on my system

PRO TIP do not use the version of Uplay that steam installes with the game see the tips section about that goofy problem
steam installs an old version you need to remove ..then get the new version from the uplay site

and if ya install uplay manually your game should auto activate

no need for a cd key
-=SOF=-WID99 Feb 18, 2018 @ 12:50pm
also about TXAA you may not even need it , i know in newer Nvidia drivers it causes crashing in AC origins currently ..dunno bout FC4 as i don't use Nvidia TXAA ..its old so i always disable it

use Nvidia DSR ..and you have no need for AA ( Nvidia DSR does work well in this game )

if i set mine up to 2560 X 1440 on my 1080 P screen no need for extra aa settings other then Ubi's own SMAA (on my 24 in screen 75 Hz )

i do prefer FC 4 in 1080 P tho on my 40 inch screen ..since it sits a few feet away from my desk and has a higher refesh rate (120 Hz ) and i'm locked at 120 FPS ..game never drops lower

2560 X 1440 looks too small for me for text on that screen
