FC4 works perfect here ..has since Nov 18th 2014 ..the day the game shipped on steam
never saw any issue with Uplay not connecting ..unless it was yea during maintenice period
and yep you can indeed play it single player in offline mode for both Uplay and Steam
or user created issue with not having an up do date version of Uplay installed .. or some backround app blocking ports ..or the game itself
1.if you buy the DVD version of the game it has 1 DRM ... UPLAY... no Steam involved
2.if you buy the game on AMAZON it has 1 DRM ... UPLAY.... no Steam involved
3.if you buy it direct from UBISOFT it has 1 DRM .. UPLAY ...no Steam involved
4.if you buy the game on greenman gameing it has 1 DRM .. UPLAY ....no Steam involved
5.if you buy the game on get games go it has 1 DRM ... UPLAY .. no Steam involved
6.if you buy the game on newegg it has 1 DRM ..UPLAY ...no Steam invloved
7.if you buy the game on gamers gate it has 1 DRM ... Uplay ...no Steam involved
if you buy it on Steam your forced into..2 DRM's - Steam + Uplay as your DRM's as both clients must be open to run the game
like it or not they will continue to use Uplay to distribute their games with as it is the default Digital platfom used on Ubisoft "Developed" titles
valve charges a publisher for every thing sold over Steam a % of each sale so thats why they use it , plus it enables them to sell the games at more sites across the internet
https://support.ubi.com/en-US/Faqs/Details/kA030000000ekN9CAI?name=approved-retail-vendor-list
steam is also only ONE online store you can get the game from ..and the only one that changes save files \ install locations | to lock you into only buyin DLC ON steam
https://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1028058-season-pass-not-working
YAY steam rox ..NOT
\
you can see those people here
https://far-cry.ubisoft.com/game/en-us/news/152-292513-16/far-cry-star-players
just to add more DRM to their game? .. they all used ..yep Uplay only copies .. i asked em why ?.. the reply ..Ubi (uplay only ) is cheaper then steam and has the games on sale more often and cheaper then steam on many sites....... even before (as well as after) the game ships
I won't even pretend to know or care what a star player is, but if it's merit based, congratulations. If it's luck based, uh... congratulations, I think? If it's money based, let's hope they see you making more posts like this so you get another invite!
And since you typed "another" uplay post, I'm guessing I'm not the first person to have a problem with this.
So you're Stockholms'd into thinking it's an acceptable (or even good?) thing? Fortunate for you. I'm happy you're not bothered by it. Don't try to sell your ♥♥♥♥ sandwich to me, though.
Meanwhile, I've owned Child of Light for about three years now, and still haven't been able to play it due to similar restrictions. I wouldn't have picked this game up in the first place if I knew it was Ubisoft, and I'll be sure to go out of my way to check the company's logo before making future purchases to avoid getting screwed again.

also as far as any issues you have contact Ubi support for your region
there are many other software programs that can conflict with the game launcher
i found it not restrictive at all .. again all my Uplay games run trouble free ..
if the Uplay master server ever goes off line \ for maintenence i can still play my SP games simply by launching Uplay and select offline mode
dunno anything about child of light
??
?.. i do not have that game .. but i bet Ubi support can help ya get it running ..
you may call me what ever you wish man .. i been gameing probaly longer then your have even been alive ..first PC i built for myself was a commodore Vic 20 ..yes i worked @ commodore at that time in the early 1980's and was allowed to build a PC just for me
been building my own ever since .....
if you hate extra launchers and other game clients... then stick to valve games
belive me i remember having to spend hours trying to get many many games to work with my PC's over the past 30 years ..having to run extra crap like memmemaker ../set IRQ's for sound and IDE cards , certian drivers ..UPGRADE .. do it all again .. then windows issues add in hadware issues .. its not easy to game on PC ..and not for everyone
also since your such a STEAM FAN did you know it had a back door built in it ...............
for years !!!!
that was recently discovered and hopefully fixed
see this page that i just saw on HARDOCP today
https://www.contextis.com/blog/frag-grenade-a-remote-code-execution-vulnerability-in-the-steam-client
uplay ain't so bad just make sure you shut off cloud save settings in Uplay settings and always have the up to date version installed
also make sure your AV software or firewall is not blocking ports the game needs open
again never had a problem with FC 4 that i could not solve on my own , see the tips section man ....for Known software that can cause an issue with FC 4 .. as for child of light
???
i'm sure they have Ubi support pages up for that game ..that you may wish to visit
bottom line Uplay is here to stay on NEW Ubi Developed titles ..as it is the main digital distribution platform used on NEW Ubisoft Developed games..and no they are not gonna get rid of it , as they sell more copies over Uplay then they sell over steam
I can see that others are having similar problems, and there are Level 0 kids like you on the payroll that get paid to scour the internet and defend it.

It's literally Software Trash
It should never launched in the first place.
