Hyperthreded Intel CPU's may work since they act as a quad core ..you just may see a little less performance
your main problem is your 940 M , since it uses DDR 3 memory and only has a 64 bit bus
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-940M.138027.0.html
thats why your getting such low FPS
try to Delete your gamerprofile.xml file
(the game will generate a new one when your restart it )
then set your settings to LOW and change your resolution within the in game menu and do not use any of the Nvidia gameworks settings
and you should bve able to set your resolution lower .. like possibly 1280 X 720
again that depends on if your laptop screen supports ( that or 1024 X 768 )
if ya look on that page i just referenced you should get about 40 FPS with LOW settings .. sorry your laptop vid card just is not powerful man
Far Cry 4 2014 low 1024x768 41.5 46.4 ~ AVG 44 fps
if ya contact Ubisoft they will just tell ya LAPTOP VID CHIPSETS MAY WORK ..BUT are NOT supported
if your game is hanging on load it also may be due to a backround application that interferes with the game ..so see the troubleshooing tips section on that
sorry but thats about all ya can do .. other then get a better PC with a Better GPU
the memory bandwidth your getting on that 940M is just too low at 14.4 gig a second ..and the minimum supported video card is a desktop GTX 460 .. a GTX 460 has a memory bandwidth of 115 gig a second
your game may not even be running on your Nvidia chip ..if your onboard intel chip is active
you should see a setting in the Nvidia driver control panel to make sure the 940 M is set to be used for far cry 4 ..not he onboard intel graphic chip thats built onto your Intel CPU
i can change mine there on my AMD based laptop ...no need to edit the xml file manually
make sure you have verified your game files and always launch Steam as well as Uplay as run as an Administrator for best results when ya verify files
even on my other two Desktops all i have to do is change my resolution right within the game it self
it may be due to your aspect ratio settings and or your Nvidia control panel resolution settings ..dunno i do not own your laptop
my laptop has an AMD A10 Quad core with AMD HD 8650 G graphics
it should then offer a lower resolution if ya set it to 4:3
that may be why its not working if ya edit the .xml file ..your screen just does not support lower resolutions in the current aspect ratio your running
if i keep mine @ 16:9 it wont allow me to use 1024 X 768 ..unless i change the aspect ratio to 4 :3
sounds like a limitation of your laptops screen then to me or a driver problem
(BTW Thank you for spending your own time just to help out.)
on my Nvidia desktop it shows what res settings are available in the Nvidia control panel settings under Display \ change resolution
far cry 4 does support more then just 1920 X 1080 as far as i know ..i have it set to 720 P on my other desktop and my laptop .. with the AMD GPU runs it in 1024 X 768
i run a GTX 960 in 1920 by 1080 on this one..and have used my 40 inch TV via HDMI out with no problems even with my laptop
if ya delete far cry 4's gamerprofile .xml file when ya restart the game it does generate a new one with Default values
and i can change my resolution as well as aspect ratio right in the game , so i dont underdstand why that will not work for you ??
if i screw up my gamerprofile settings when i edit it ..i just delete that file and it resets to the default values the game detects..and the game loads up fine
id try running DDU and clear out your Nvidia drivers ..some thing just sounds wrong there if it does not offer you any other resolution setting on your display in the Nvidia control panel other then just 1080 P
Well... I uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. Nothing has changed... I might just go and cry in a corner now.
You'll have used at least one of Fullscreen, Borderless and Windowed mode; try the others. (Hopefully this hasn't vanished from the in-game settings menu, too.) If new resolutions doesn't immediately appear, try exiting the game while in that mode (which should be saved to your configuration) and restarting it. You might be able to lower the resolution and then switch back to Fullscreen mode (which typically gives a much better frame rate than the other modes) and keep that resolution.
Try changing your Windows desktop resolution and then running the game.
Doesn't work... I've tried everything at this point and I'm just gonna refund the game as I can't run it at the resolution I need... Well. I might try Far Cry 3.
