18 . Nvidia gameworks problems , if your getting crashes with an Nvidia GPU in the game, try to not use the Nvidia gameworks features , these were busted in the Nvidia drivers by Nvidia
please see the following threads about this problem .
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1259821-One-more-on-FC4-crashes?s=8853d37c4ebb9d3f4643bd564cea943e
and this one on the official Nvidia forums
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/799274/geforce-drivers/nvlddmkm-keep-crashing-in-far-cry-4/
Nvidia 361.75 . 361.91 362.00 shadow play bug , will crash the game on launch to fix it \ disable Shadow Play in geforce experience
please see
http://steamcommunity.com/app/298110/discussions/0/458607699617665929/
additionally with AMD GPU's there was a problem with the AMD beta 15.11 driver that caused the game to crash on launch
see this thread
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1319893-CCC-15-11-crashes-FC3-4?s=8853d37c4ebb9d3f4643bd564cea943e
to fix it roll back to the 15.10 beta driver or use the 15.7 or 15.12 WHQL drivers
you can get both from this link
http://www.guru3d.com/files-categories/videocards-ati-catalyst-vista-win-7.html
make sure you use DDU when uninstalling your current drivers in safe mode for best results
http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
*update AMD has released newer drivers but they still have issues , under Known issues
in the new Driver*
Known Issues
A few game titles may fail to launch or crash if the AMD Gaming Evolved overlay is enabled. A temporary workaround is to disable the AMD Gaming Evolved "In Game Overlay".
not all AMD GPU's are supported by the newer Crimson drivers see http://betanews.com/2015/11/24/amd-kills-gpu/
as well as my current gigabyte GTX 1060 6 gig GPU
here are the settings i used on my asus GTX 960.... in case it helps yea you can do a bit better then my high settings i would tend to think
my in Game settings are Custom
resolution 1920 X 1080
vsync - on
Quality settings
motion blur off - not a fan of it ..
Textures - Ultra
Shadows - High <--- (Nvidia PCSS Soft Shadows will kill your FPS )
Post FX -Ultra
Geometry - Very High
Vegetation- Ultra
Environment - High
Water - Ultra
Ambient Occusion setting is SSBC
Antialising settings is SMAA
God rays - off- not a fan of how it looks (can make the game unstable..even on Titan X and GTX 980 Ti cards )
Fur - on
Trees relief -on
in Advanced settings
Triple buffering - off
Vsync mode - Normal
in Nvidia control panel, i made these changes
Anisotropic Filtering = 16 X
Max Pre Rendered Frames = 1 or 3
Set Power Management Mode = Adaptive (since both my cards were factory oc models )
game looks fine to me and plays stutter free on my system with zero crashes
also i did install Razer Cortex game booster version 7.0 as it does seem to help with this game
http://www.filehorse.com/download-game-booster/old-versions/
*(note newer versions of cortex do not seen to work as well , at least for me so i stick with 7.0 )
also remember backround apps can play an issue as mentioned in the tips section ,,and nope newer Nvidia drivers may not work as well
as Nvidia it seems borked up alot o things with the later drivers and Nvidia gameworks .. the developers have ZERO control over what Nvidia puts out as far as drivers
Nvidia gameworks = a closed system , all the developer needs to do is make the settings available ..dev teams have zero input on how a later driver works
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_GameWorks
and if your allowing geforce experince handle your driver updates .. may god help you
that software = a bug fest , you can see that everytime on the Nvidia forums , when a new driver gets released
always use DDU and do a custom install and perform a CLEAN install of your drivers
go look ..
https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/33/geforce-drivers/
might be why the second post down is always one to get DDU from
