Unit download recommendations
Going to put a list of my unit recommendations, as for me, this game is all about adding new stuff.
If you think a unit is awesome which i've missed, please post! Always like to try some new units.

To begin, everything i recommend is available here: http://files.tauniverse.com/

Secondly, i will recommend ta:Mutation found at http://files.tauniverse.com/files/ta/utilities/. This will provide fixes to a lot of downloaded stuff. Mostly confilcts with weapons(each weapon has an ID number, if it's being used by another weapon, then it will not work and possibly crash), build positions (Units when downloaded go into a particular space in the build menu, if this space is used, then only one of the 2 units can be built, ta:M will fix and slot one of them in the next available slot).
There is also a pack with more "mutations" (found in http://files.tauniverse.com/files/ta/utilities/ ta:mutation ->mutators, collections -> mutators.zip which does various stuff like making the commander more powerful or making build speeds 2x/4x/8x the speed (i usually play with build speed doubled).
Also a hugely important one for me is wreckage removal, as the AI is ridiculously stupid at moving past wreckage which isnt fun.
Bear in mind, this generally will prevent you playing the campaign and you will have to disable them to make it available.

For more experienced players, TA:Conflict crusher can resolve some other issues and let you play with build menues. I have had some issues getting this to work and simply had to close it and reopen it 3-4 times to get it to work (also seems to have an issue if you have a LOT of conflicts, even though this is meant to fix them). Only download if you need the menu rearranging or have weapons not working.

Quickly, i also suggest the cavedog map pack, as abysmal lake is an enjoyable map and plenty of other great maps there too: http://files.tauniverse.com/files/ta/maps-1/ ->cavedog -> cavedog-maps-repacked (recommended), just chuck it in the TA folder and all maps will be available. TA:Mutation will treat it as a unit for some reason.

So, to units (all of which can be found here: http://units.tauniverse.com/ )
Awesome units. Just get them:
Drake: tier 3 Arm Kbot, with mid range laser, short range laser and mid range rockets.
Heavy kbot centre tier 3 Arm kbot production: allows building drakes.
Abolisher: Core t2 kbot, mid range rocket (uses up ~100 metal per shot) and a mid-long range piercing laser.
Advanced solar collectors (Arm and Core) built by commander and t2 kbots. produce 120 power, just really saves on spamming loads of smaller solar collectors. Try to make sure you don't download the unit pack, as there's some units in there i personally don't like.
Troll: Core t3 kbot Cannons, rocket and another weapon.
Dragonfly/Falcon: Tier 2 transports which allow the units they transport to fire weapons whilst being transported. Cannot transport some units as they are deemed too large.
Blitz: Arm t2 vehicle, mid range rocket salvo shoots 5 rockets then has a ~10 second cooldown till it can fire again.
Razorback: Arm t2/t3 kbot, short range piercing lasers
delirium: Arm t1 kbot, short-mid range laser with long cooldown
Nashorn: Arm t2 vehicle, fires 3 cannons then a short cooldown.
Howie: Core t3 kbot, fires mid-long range large rockets and a mid range rocket.
Tremor: Arm T1 aircraft, fires a salvo of rockets, has movement similar to brawler.
Bumblebee: Core t1 aircraft, weak short-mid range lasers and short-mid range rockets

Good units:
B-52G Stratofortress: Arm & Core t2 heavy bomber (does make the original bomber a bit obsolete though), arm and core versions have different names, but come as a pack, so downloading one gives you both.
The Jar - Tier 1 kbot similar to the can, but weaker obviously.
Oddity: Tier 2 arm kbot, sort of a mobile guardian.
Golem: Tier 1 arm mid range semi inaccurate tank.
Terrier: T1 arm vehicle short-mid range bullets
Beagle :T2 arm kbot, fires 2x short-mid range cannons
absolute chaos: T3 Core Kbot, Fires cannons and rockets mid range and a short range laser
Raptor : Arm T3 kbot, short-mid range cannons and some other weps.
Ketzer: Tier 2/3 core kbot: Short-mid range laser-cannon.

I have a few more i use, but these will do for the moment, will post more depending on feedback.

when i tryed to download a unit it said had to pay for it after 40 days i love the game but its do i actually have to pay for the copies /

when you use winrar, it requests payment. simply ignore this. Winzip iirc now stops working after the 40 days. Could be wrong as it's been a long time since i used winzip. If you're using winzip, try winrar and ignore any request for payment (takes 2 seconds to close each time you use it).

The units themselves from tauniverse are free, just the unzipping tool to access them requests payment.
