Well as far as i know, steam copies and gog copies won't play together,

However go into multiplayer and select TCP/ip and start a game, The other player will join that game in the games list.

If all else fails you could try IPX but you need to install it to windows first (ipx not the game, it's a network protocol.)

Tcp/ip works best however.

Cause it doesn’t show the game in the games list

You have to 1) Know your friend's IP (or your friend needs to know your IP and 2) you need to forward the port that TA uses (you can specify this in the MP lobby). Once the host has setup the proper port forwarding, just have you friend connect to your IP address. Easy peasy.

Alternatively, you can download GameRanger and you can easily host a game that way. Seriously, download it, install it, and hit host game. It should detect any compatible games on your system.

Or you can install the Total Annihilation Forever client. It's a client with its own servers and ability to host TA games. Even has a chat lobby for everyone on at the time.

I made a complete video which shows you how to install and play Total Annihilation on modern machines (and to play online) in 2023. This should hopefully fix your problem.
