Loading saved games always leads to a crash

Hey folks,

I've found a bunch of threads on other forums from other players complaining about this problem - is anyone else experiencing this?

Each time I load a saved game, TA crashes and exits.

From my perspective, it makes the game fairly unplayable, because each time I stop playing after I have put some decent effort (and hours) into a game, I then can't resume it the following day.

Got any tips/advice?

I only play skirmish as i played the campaigns a lot in the 90's but i don't think modding will help with the games stability regarding saving and loading.

If you do get desperate to try and get the game to load safely you could try setting the display to 1280 x 1024 which might be more stable for the engine, Also disabling the music as i think it used to read from the CD and loading may mess with it.

Got the same issue in a fresh download without any mods and it also happens in skirmish I found. I'll try lowering the resolution.

Hi there, I found installing the unofficial 3.9 Community Patch fixed the "crash when loading a saved game" issue: https://github.com/gammata/TA-Unofficial-Patch-Install (I'm running Windows 11)

Note: installing the Community Patch causes the music to stop working. This is the fix: https://github.com/gammata/TA-Unofficial-Patch-Install/issues/26#issuecomment-2558371813
