Total Annihilation

Total Annihilation

TA needs remake!
I really need a TA remake, sure I can go play Supreme Commander, but TA just has so much nostalgia, unfortunaly it didn't age well, using high resolution minimap becomes "nano map" hardly useable, have to click next window all the time to go between commands and build menu, no rally points from factories etc.

You select the factory click 'move' to set waypoint. To set a path or to see where it is set, hold shift down.

Thanks, but do you know how to make the minimap big?

Thanks for headsup but it doesn't seems to be my taste, graphics seems too "pre alpha stage".

U cant accuse a game for pre alpha stage graphics while u want to play TA just for nostalgia reasons. Its TA dude...i guess some of the developers should be dead of old age. :P

No, the quality of graphcis are relative to time, now we should expect more from a graphcis standpoint, and it's actually in many areas worse than TA.

If you want the original TA atmosphere, then really try Balanced Annihilation (BA) - which is practically the original TA, but balanced for better (multiplayer or singleplayer vs. AI) battles.

Just download the Escalation mod. Google it. Works with Steam.

Not for me it doesn't

All installed according to instruction.

http://taesc.tauniverse.com/?p=faq#Install

Extremely complicated for a project that claims to want to expand TA to a broader audience.

Frankly all I'm trying to do is correct the absurd narration loop bug.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/298030/discussions/0/487877107152211317/

But when I launch escalation the campaign screen has nothing but the base campaigns and when you try to start one you don't get any narration, or mission text and the game crashes.

Either way it's their fault. Base game shouldn't be bugged like this, install of the mod should be a lot more automated and error proof, or the project's goals should include respect for people that want to nostalgia play the campaigns.

Try this: https://www.tauniverse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43735

Thank you, I'll try that :)

Edit: Still getting looping narration. Skipping past that I launch the first core campaign mission and I can't do anything, I see arm units and red dots on the map but no core units. Maybe the narration had a clue XD

Edit2: Anyone use DxWnd?

The video linked form here is badly out of date:

Edit3: Uninstalled everything, trying again from scratch according to this process: https://www.tauniverse.com/forum/showpost.php?p=744836&postcount=31

Edit4: Never did get it working.

Wow I need to dig into this but I can't right now and wanted to say I read it and thank you. Can't promise I'll report back, but I'll try.

Edit: Ok I've already seen all that. You can even see where I commented on one of the videos linked 4 months ago.

I see the update thread but all that you end up with is a ddraw file and I have no idea what to do with it.

Edit2: Since I kind of have a YOLO attitude with my TA folder now I decided to be less cautious and try to adapt settings from old versions shown for new stuff, and I managed to solve the narration bug I think. But only with 3.1. It's still unplayable because of screen jitter.

Trying to launch the game after installing the community patch via DXWnd does nothing. I double click, I'm given the resolution/windowed/save settings dialog, I click launch total annihilation, and literally nothing happens. Trying to launch the exe directly also does nothing. Guess my folder is unsalvageable. I'll try back again in a year or two, hopefully the process is a little less kludgy and scatter shot by then. Or TA will remain a nostalgic fond memory, as opposed to something I can actually play.

That helped, thank you. I managed to get DXWind to launch "Total Annihilation.exe" (~6meg) But it's very unstable. Sometimes the screen jitters from left to right rapidly, and sometimes it doesn't. Also it can crash to desktop randomly. Still, big improvement. I now have moments of playability. Mine was also tdraw by the way. And I'm using the steam version. I already owned two copies of this game from back in the day, buying it a third time on steam was BS enough, I'm not buying it a fourth time. XD

Edit: I don't even know what version of dxwind I have but I know the settings panels look different from all screencaps I've seen in tutorial links or videos so far.

"About" says SFB7 GHO DLL version v2.04.97
