Does this game work on modern computers?
Is the Steam version of TA the original game from 1997 or is it a remastered/adapted version to make it playable on modern computers? Because most games from that time either won't play or have lots of issues so I want to be sure that I buy something that will work on Windows 8.1 or 10.

Yes it works and has been updated for 1080p.

Total Annihilation, for whatever reason, seems to work on any Windows operating system. I purchased the game in 1997, and have since played it on Windows 95 [32mg ram, 5 minutes loading certain skirmish maps, the good old days ...] , Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 10. I've habitually tested it on whatever new operating system I purchased, and I haven't been disappointed yet lol.

There's also a version that's been ported to Mac, run through the Good Old Games version via their Galaxy client.

I too have played this game since it came out. Cavedog is the original maker. I might still have the disc to this game somewhere. On steam i am running into a start issue. You say this game works with the modern system. Need help or maybe i need to find my old files and play it that way.

If you installed any TAUniverse mods, they actually install a legacy code base that no longer works with Win 10 since about 2018. If you install fresh from Steam and play vanilla, you should be fine. I tested it with the new title update for Win 10 just a day or so ago.
