Total Annihilation

Total Annihilation

Issue with gameranger. Please help
So i managed to get TA ESC 9.0 running. even got some of the maps set up. everything works out fine when i play solo but when i try to play through gameranger, it simply blacks out (like it normally does when the game starts up) and then it just sent me back to my desktop... Anybody else run into this issue?

When in a GameRanger game room, hit Ctrl+e and check the path to the Escalation totala.exe is correct. Moving TA from the default Steam folder to another might be a good idea.

If it actually lauches TA and you get black screen time out, then make sure host has forwarded GR host port 16000 UDP. You can also increase connectivity by forwarding DX and TA ports, but for GR the joining player should be alright as long as host has 16000 UDP.

You might also want to make sure that no other player in the GR gameroom has his name in italics to you. This would mean that GR cannot find a way to connect you to that person and it would lead to 0 or N/A ping in TA Battle Room which means that the game would disconnect inside the first minute.

But if you have pathed your TA to launch correctly, and no other person is italics to you, and your game actually launches in the launch, you should be able to reach battle room. If you get black, your host or you might have a problem to solve.

Keep us up to date.

Thanks again for your response. Ive unfortunately hit a wall at this point and i'm not really sure what to do. I tried to access my router but i didnt see no option to do any of that UDP port stuff. To be honest, ive never really messed with any router before so im pretty much unfamiliar at meddling with it asides from the basics; i'd hate to break the settings on it and kill my internet altogether. Plus, i'd have no way of testing it without another player in the gr lobby. everyone on GR just wants to play, not help some random dumb dumb figure out how to set up their game; can't blame them.

Thank you again for the help though. If you have any further tips id love to hear them out. At this point, however, I just feel stupid asking any further questions since everyone else seems to know what theyre doing already.

So i figured out the problem. Turns out i just needed to use the hotfix on their page instead of using DXWnd, which allowed me to play the game solo but not online. boy i feel dumb but am i happy to have finally figured it out. Thanks again for the tips you offered here n my other post. I appreciate it.

For anyone else having this issue (screen just blacks out after start up only to return you to desktop), don't get DXWnd. Instead use the hotfix posted on the TAuniverse site.
