SecuROM is one of the worst, if not the worst, DRM in gaming history. Avoid it like the plague, and don't support companies that use it. Literally SecuROM limits you in number of installs and/or where you can install your game, and it's very invasive in the system. Every time you change or update just one device or hardware in your PC, or re-install Windows for whatever reason (hard disk failure, for example), it counts as you using a different PC, which reduces in 1 the number of installs/computers allowed to install the game if you didn't uninstall and revoked your game before the change. And to revoke a game, most of the time you have to download a program from the SecuROM website for that specific game. To clean your system from SecuROM, you have to download from their website another utility for that, to remove general entries of SecuROM in your hard drive (files and entries in the Windows registry), but there are always entries that never removes, making the uninstallation of SecuROM practically impossible.

This is pure MISINFORMATION.

While YES there are versions of SecuROM that limit activations, Split/Second was NEVER a title that limited activations. What LITTLE functionality SecuROM originally had in this game was to check your CD key online and verify that the date is after the game was originally released. That was it.

Now, its defunct. The game doesn't even activate with the Steam version. It just makes sure you're a valid Steam account that purchased the game and then installs it and you're done.

After installing this version of Split/Second, I don't even have any registry entries for SecuROM.

I think that honor belongs to Starforce and it's successors.

Now Starforce was horrendous... If i had $1 for every re-install i've had to do in my life because of this... lol

Split second DOES have limited activations:

https://support.securom.com/pop_splitsecond.html

But the game comes with a revoke tool, so aslong as you remember to revoke the licence before you uninstall or reformat HDD you will never run out of activations.

how do you revoke the licence?

When you uninstall the game it asks if you want to revoke the license.
