Cant start the game
I have a Windows 7, and in the first window of the game, after I click the button “play CC – Gateway to Caen”, nothing happens.

Open the game installation folder, find a file named "CCE.exe" and run it.
What happens? Do you receive any error message?

When I run CCE.exe an icon appears for a split second on my menu bar and then nothing happens.

I have the same issue as yamin151. I even uninstalled CC and reinstalled it. Yet it appears but nothing happens. I am running Win 7 on a Macbook via Parallels.

I should also add, that it used to work but no longer does.

I have exactly the same issue on Win 8.

Try running Steam program adn the game as an administrator.

Still won't work as administrator

I double checked I have the latest DirectX drivers. Still the game won't run. I am at a loss for ideas and I am going through CC withdrawls.

If the game used to work but no longer does, something was updated / changed that cause the issue. I would focus on what's changed about your computer or installed software since the game last worked properly.

Try this:

1) Start Steam

2) Open Windows explorer and navigate to the installation folder for CC - this is usually something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Close Combat - Gateway to Caen.

3) Right click CCE.EXE and choose 'Run as Administrator.'

If this does not work, and you do not see any CC error message, there is probably something else in your system that is preventing the game from running properly. And as I said, I would focus on things that have changed about your system since the game was last running.

Bought the game today. Played for 31 min this afternoon. Now it will not start. As above - when I hit play an icon appears for a split second. I followed your instructions to run as administrator but still does not work. I really cannot think of anything that has changed on my system in the past 5 hours - I was not even using the computer since then.

Sorry for the bother. Re-booted the computer and had a message that Steam update was being downloaded. Game works now.

Aha! Good to know bsearles. Thanks for passing that along, and glad it's working now.

I am now having this problem with Close Combat Panzer Corp and Command: Modern Air. The only connection between them is that the are Matrix games. All my other steam download programs work fine. Panzer Corp will work if I start it from its own folder but not from steam. Nothing happens just prepares to start and then nothing.

As far as Close Combat purchased from Steam goes, the message "Steam Client could not be started" means that the game does not think Steam is running and when it tried to auto-start Steam, it did not appear to work. This sounds like a Steam config issue if it just started happening, as nothing has changed with Close Combat recently.

Are you starting the game from Steam or from the Windows Explorer? You might try running CCE.EXE from the game install folder to see if it works when you start it directly. Just make sure Steam is running already. The default install folder is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Close Combat - Gateway to Caen\

I can't really comment on Panzer Corps or Command, sorry. They're not really my area.
