What about the LSA? Supposedly a bridge too far remake. Does it have a similar AI?
I don't own it but I don't think LSA has the same AI as CC2 since it is from the same batch of WaR/TLD.
LSA is a Remake in the sense that is the same setting as CC2, but it draws from TLD/WaR who at the same time draw from CC5. It does have a point system and blowable bridges and you can stack 2 Battlegroups on one map so there's that. I wanted to get it to play the GJS mod in there but it is still to pricey.
No CC2 is on a class on itself, surely the years have not been kind to it as the graphics look outdated but still with its own charm, like an old cartoon, and is missing some vital improvements, most important the scavenging code to pick up weapons from the dead. But if you play it today you will notice how different the AI is, it tries to actively kill you and retreat when they have no chance but stand their ground where they must. Sure after a while you pick up the way it thinks and the best spots on the maps for the most appropiate units but it is still a satisfaction to hold Arhnem against the ruthless AI.
I do have The Longest Day, and can say that the AI is improved somewhat from CC5. CC5/4 have about the worst AI for solo play, though some mods do turn it up to 11, namely VetBoB for CC4.
What is LSA?
CC3: The Russian Front
CC: Gateway to Caen.
I really enjoy these three the most and highly recommend them all.
They've got the best versions of either linear campaigns or campaign maps. Best range of mods available and they don't have the crap changes to soldier AI from the remakes.
Why avoid the remakes?
AT guns became more indecisive, tanks would ♥♥♥♥ around more turning their hulls and turrets and they'd more frequently break contact with a target if vision was slightly obscured [dark green target line]. The remakes are if you really, really like reissuing orders or can't get the originals to work [the gog versions ought to take care of that].
They also removed the rocket halftracks and 120mm mortars in Cross of Iron, which is just ♥♥♥♥.
But still I think that A Bridge Too Far is the best
Gateway to Caen
Panthers in the Fog
Last Stand Arnhem
wich one guys?
i'm looking for a CC game that has a nice selction of units to use, and features both attack or defense on both axis and allies sides.
thank you!
While I personally don't have much hope for the upcoming 'The Bloody First', these days I'd like to play a CC game with my friend so in that case which of the game in the series would worth the best with that in mind? (Like I can renounce from either of the games that lack AI, f.i.)
Thanks for your attention!
