Can you level up soldiers (military ranks)?

Hi, I remember in A bridge too far that if your soldiers got a medal, their rank would go up (ex. corporal to sargent, etc).
Anyone?

No they cannot, rank will never change. Morale, leadership, intelligence, strength and experience will fluctuate. Winning or losing a map, injury, time in combat, mental state and heroic actions among some others make these characteristics rise and fall.

Oh well, I guess i'll keep playing xcom. Close Combat was my first strategic game and loved it for many years during the 90s. It still has so much potential and it has to evolve just as xcom did.

The best of them should be able to rank up once during the campaign. They didnt join army the day the battle started, "watson"...

What this guy said. Your fighting the start of the largest invasion of all time. You ever see Band of Brothers? Remember how for like 3 episodes they don't know where the CO of EZ is? Promotions haven't gone through yet, you're still a grunt.
