Beating German tanks
Can someone give me a tip on beating the German tanks.

My 6lb guns, shermans, churchills are getting ate up by these things.

I try to place the guns in ambushing points but it doesn't work. I just corned a panther with 2 6 lb ats. The guns were under no fire from anyone but they took several shots and either the shells bounced off or they missed. The tiger took a total of 3 shots and both guns were destroyed instantly.

This happens with my tanks too. I try to attack in groups of 2 but I don't stand a chance.

Any tips?

Ambushing/attacking from the flanks is really all you can do. A well placed Piat works wonders as well, btw.

Head on, you're just begging for opportunities to write letters of condolence home.

Thanks. yeah I've been doing that. Seems as I continue the campaign I'm getting better. I was concerned of the amount of tanks and 6lb guns I was losing but it seems now that I have much more reinforcement than the enemy. Seems to be a war of attrition.

You do have more reinforcements, yes. However, later, the Germans receive Tigers and Panthers, as well as Panzer IV as support... sooo don't get used to your Shermans! :D

An old tactic is this. Distract the tank with infantry. The enemy tank will reload HE to fire at infantry, and reload another HE if the infantry is still there. While the tank is wasting time reloading HE, move a tank up to fire AP. Fire, move back. When the enemy tank sees your tank, it may reload from HE to AP, not firing the HE round using up more time.

If possible, to add more time to the enemy tanks response, distract with infantry from a different direction your tank is attacking from. Now you have turret traverse and reloading working together.

In a nutshell, you are engaging the tank from different angles with units the tank will reload different ammo for.

thanks for the tips. Im doing much better now. looks like i will win the campain eventually.

Today I trapped a tiger and it couldnt see my 6Lb AT Gun. My at gun took almost 10 shots and almost every shot hit the front armour of the tiger and pinged off. I didnt damage the tank at all. Eventually he got eyes on my AT Gun , he slowly moved the turret and BAM, one shot kill on my AT squad. He went on to harass a huge section of my army and a lot of med died in retreat. I wanted this section of map so i had artillery barrage, a mortar strike, and an air strike. I sent all 3 attacks on this one tank throughout the battle and NOTHING destroyed it or even damaged it eventually the game ended due to everyone being tired.

Congrats. Now you now the problem Tigers created for allied infantry. They are virtually indestructable to any form of attack save from the back.
In WWII the best tank killers were RAF Typhoons and Tempests armed with unguarded air-to-surface AP rockets, they made life for the Panzer units a complete misery

No 17 pounders in this game? A 17 pounder will go through that flat frontal armour like butter.

Sorry for the necro.

Use your Churchill3's!! They have the APDR rounds that kill Panthers and TIgers! keep a command team near them becuase Church3's tend to have low morale/experience, but they and the 6pdrs can kill all German tanks. The M10IIC will kill all German tanks but is opened topped and the crew is vulnerable to mg fire.

There are 17 pounder guns and the Sherman fireflies and Achillies tank destroyers will destroy anything from any direction. But keep in mind that your armor is no where near as good. So stick with the ambush/flank tactics.
The Churchill III can penetrate Tigers and and Panther FRONT ARMOUR (and any other angle for that matter) because of the APDS round.

Its WAY better than the Firefly in this game and the M10 as the Churchill has very thick armour (far thicker than the Sherman and M10)

USE THE CHURCHILL III to kill Panthers and Tigers from ALL ANGLES!

It works.

I do it all the time in multiplayer.

Read up on it!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordnance_QF_6-pounder#British_service

"he situation was somewhat improved by the development of more sophisticated ammunition in the form of the Armour-Piercing, Composite Rigid (APCR) shot and the Armour-Piercing, Discarding Sabot (APDS) shot, which was available from 1944 and made it effective in fighting the Tiger I and Panther tanks frontally."

If anyone wants evidence, FREIND ME and I will show you how many of your Tigers and Panthers I can kill...
Here is a Reddit with a document from Monty asking for more of these tanks with this ammunition:

The 6pdr APDS rounds work well, you don't get many of them though. 17pdr can be hit or miss. You'll still want to be going to flank shots with them where possible. The flame projector on the Crocodile is your friend, that and air support. If you were playing GJS, I'd suggest trying to nip a Stuart round the back of a Tiger, I've had that work.
I hanve't had much luck withteh Crocs vs Panthers and tigers but the Churchill 3 in ambush eats those kitties for breakfast lunch and dinner. You just have to keep them alive. I am in a PVP GC and I have a a few elite level CHurchill 3's and they are devastating. ESPECIALLY against panthers and tigers in the open. PZ4's are an easy kill with the Churchill 3's
