Close Combat - Gateway to Caen

Game speed
Hello, I love the flow of the game and how everything is unpredictable with your units and since I played the first five of the close combat series, I've been bitting my nails waiting for number six to come out. One thing that I have a hard time with though is the game speed. Even on fast, it's still too slow. Is anyone aware of a mod that allows you to change the game speed above fast and/or allows you to change the speed of the game in-game?

Hey, I don't think there's a mod like that changes the game speed.

However, I share the same feelings about the pace of the games. It is quite slow, and I think this is what puts a lot of people off. That's why I'm working on a "Small Map Mod" that will reduce the size of the maps to make the combat more intense and shorten the battles at the same time. To see a preview, see this video http://youtu.be/7fMMCrSYxYQ

It's still in progress but should be done in the next week or so.

A battle between two company-sized bodies of troops would normally take a couple of hours at least, in CC it takes about twenty minutes. I wouldn't call that slow, although I can see how it would appear that way, especially for people who are used to the lightning-fast-paced RTS games like Age of Empires, Starcraft, Command & Conquer etc.

I certainly agree with you. When I had first started playing the series, back then the game also felt very slow compared to other mainstream RTS games. This is true when you play single-player, since the AI sits on its a** and does not do much most of the time.

However, try playing against a human opponent and you will see that you wish the game was in fact slower. You usually end up doing a lot of multitasking and micromanaging when you play this game multi-player.

I can see where you are coming from, however the speed allows you to reposition your units and use tactics. Moving and setting up an MG takes time, which means you need to plan ahead. You can't just move a unit and expect results. You need to cover each unit and make sure it can move ahead with cover. If you just charge blindly in then it will mean you'll get wiped out.

As said by crackwise, there is a lot to do, and micro managing each unit in different areas of the map can be a lot especially if they are engaged in different areas. Speeding the game up wouldn't be a good thing.

It is really a problem of this game that it isn't possible to play on faster game speed than "fast". Other problem - no options in game/battle. So many parts of this game released and still such basic things weren't improved. I understand that for some maybe it could be viewed as non-realistic or non-climatic but I don't agree as it would be optional against ai, speed should be adjustable ingame (during battle with ai), default should be current fast but also faster modes should be available, some battles are getting really long and it's painful "to loss time" when realising your specific tactic.
I think there is never wrong to give users more options, developers please improve this or help us with mod (best if it was also made for older CC parts). Is it really impossible to mod to just speed up game, I'm not modder but it seems not that complicated? I think more people would like this and it could add new fans of series.

ps- If also saves option during battles would be added I thing bigger maps could be possible and enjoyable but this will be maybe possible in a new game with newer maps? Making smaller maps is not the way.

Pretty much what we have been saying for years. However, the developers seem to have their own priority system, which tends to prioritize less important to downright unnecessary things. The in-game save option for sure is the most vital thing to include, it will at least be a remedy against random multiplayer crashes.

It is not possible to mod the game to allow for a time ratio faster than 1:1 / real time. That is what you get on 'fast'. I'll record your suggestion for consideration in future versions though. Thanks for your feedback.
