Early Access and Monthly Subscription Feedback
I am consolidating threads regarding Xsyon's current phase and concerns with the monthly subscription.

Although Xsyon is in Early Access, it is not in early alpha or a paid public test. (The public test server is available to players that wish to participate).

The current state of Xsyon is best described in the Alpha, Best, Early Access and The Prelude

Many players have expressed concerns regarding the monthly subscription. This was never an issue before Xsyon launched here on Steam. The reasons behind the monthly subscription and potential plans and risks involved to remove it are detailed in the Monthly Subscription thread.

I do welcome and appreciate the feedback.

Thanks!

Melwing, first off other games have charged for Alpha and have done very well. Second is that Xsyon isnt in Alpha nor is it in an Alpha state.

@Xelaris, can you tell me which sandbox MMO is better than Xsyon right now. Currently I only know of EvE online, and it's a space game not really my cup of tea. I've tried dozens of sandbox games and none are better than Xsyon even Xsyon with all it's flaws and lacking content.
Do you know what pay ti win system is? Subscription based games are NOT the pay to win, they are pay to play. VERY different business models.

About the game listed as early access and having a sub. I get it, you don't like that. But I would rather have it like this, then have all the crap people that are looking to play in game come and mess up the world and be gone in a week. Trust me, Xsyon has tried that system and it doesnt work.
So now we are back to where we are now, I get it, you don't want to pay for games. But when doing that, there are consequences with your choices. In this case, you have less money for the devs, more support required for people that never will pay to play the game, and many more world issues and problems for people that will never pay to play. That is what happens when you choose your free to play model.
But with this model, the consequences you have is the people that don't want to pay get mad.

Which do you think is the better choice for a dev? In other games, free to play players don't get the option to build and tear down etc things. Mostly they rarely interact with others unless its for a group fighting mobs. Sure they might cause problems with chat or something, but then just have a good ignore function.
In Xsyon, that doesnt work well. Because you have things out in the world that world based on how people treat each other, like growing trees, and scav junk piles, roads, and terraforming etc.
Xsyon had the game free to play and the game looked like a warzone. Huge holes in the land, barren of trees and grass, junk piles had massive holes in it. 1/2 built areas and campfires everywhere.

Do please, do a little more thinking because you cry about the system, and do not call Xsyon a pay to win system.

So you're saying here that i like free to play, even though i never said anywhere that i do. I understand that money has to come in for a dev to make a living and continue development of a game, i am not studying game design for no reason. What i do not understand is why that income has to come from a supendously high monthly fee.
If the problem is that you don't want people to leave after a few days/weeks of playing and not giving a ♥♥♥♥, why does the monthly fee have to be that high? Can't it be a quarter of the cost, or maybe just half?

If you answer is no, consider the following: Have you become too blinded by this game because you have spent endless hours playing because you feel you have an obligation after paying so much for it?

Also, why do you keep comparing this game to other games as if this one is better for changing a few minorities?
This is why im not a fan of Kickstarter or the way early access titles are sold and handled and especially on team as they can basically profit off an unifinished and even unplayable game like it was a finished product nevermind when its a kickstarter early access title that basically is gambling and profiting off normal people so that they dont have to do and develop their game like it normally would have to be and have to give more like control or profits to a publisher or other backers who normally like any smart business would ask for a percentage of the sales or interest for that money. This way they only have to give promises with no guarantees nevermind just a game to backers in the end which the money more then paid for but no control, no percentage of the profits, and no interest they would have to with a bank or any loan priod. Think about they are using our money to basically not just gain full control but rhe most profits possible for them. Some not olny take donations but also sell and charger for early access copies of the game on top of it nevermind everything else like micro transactions or in this case subscriptions amn are these devs making out like bandits and people act like they are doing it for the gamers and fans lol seriously open your eyes the people and side benefiting most out of this deal are the Devs and business dies of things not us gamers who blindly give a way our money and trust them to do with it as they say and promise yet how many unfinsihed and failed early access and kickstarter titles are there?

Am i the only one who is seeing what is going on here and that some devs who have more then enough money, reputation, and credit to get the money themselves through the normal means and channels like banks, publsihers, and etc don't have to and rent doing so not because they can't but because they can take advantage, abuse, and gain alot more profits along with control through this and something that was clearly meant for people who sincerely couldnt get the game done through those normal means. Instead its basically become a way for smaller or even both mid and larger businesses to make alot more money and profit off the peoples/consumer's backs and money without any real risk of their own or having to give any real compensation for it as they would have to normallyotherwise lol. Nevermind the risks for us the consumer and that they profit off whats an unfinsihed and broken game early on on top of the donations and can continue to as long as they want and not deliver what they promise in the end if they so choose as they dont have to deliver on their promises or give us our money back so basically we do and are getting a rawdeal out of the whole thing when you think about about all this. Man this surely is not the direction i want to see gaming industry going theres already plenty bad involved with any businesses and gaming industry period this only adds and worsens things and clearly not what i expected but should have known better.

I disagree with you Alter, I think most people won't care about the sub, the ones that do don't even want to pay the 30$ anyways. It's much better to get 12 people for a year that pay 30$ plus 15$ per month than 100 people at 30$ split up over 12 months. Even though you are getting less with the 12 people than the 100 people. You are getting better type of gamer and causing less overall issues.

You also have to remember that Xsyon had 1000s of people PAID and playing the game when it was first put out. So this isn't the first chance.

I've seen it time and time again. Games just go to crap on a free to play system, most people I know are willing to pay for a game wont even touch a free to play game. Xsyon has already seen the free to play crowd.

This isn't like Xsyon hasn't tried your way, he did and it was a major mistake.

Clearly most people DO care about the sub, why the hell do you think so many mmos go f2p or shut down completely after less than a year? All those mmos made by huge billion dollar companies, not some unknown company that could go under any second and all those games were completely, not buggy unfinished games that again because it is some unknown indie dev it may never get finished. Not to mention according to the description this is nothing more than a rust/dayz/7 days to die clone except you have to pay monthly for it on top of an upfront fee.
Early access AND monthly charge?
Honestly, who do you think you are?
This game looks so unpolished, you should be PAYING people to test it for you.
But a monthly charge on an early access game?
There are so many free to play mmos out right now that don't have a game charge or monthly.

Can someone even begin to try and sell me on this game?

Honestly, who do you think YOU are? Playing an MMO without paying...tss
+1

This game fails so hard on so many levels that you have to wonder where the devs mind is. It cannot compete with other games like ArchAge, Haven&Hearth, Salem, Tree of Life or Wurm Online. But it taxes like its better then any of them. Watching the game dying slowly
I was an original supporter/alpha tester in 2011, by the way. Ended up getting a refund. Seems nothing has changed. The main dev still hasn't learned.

Yes, how dare I question the ethical practice of charging people a monthly fee to maintain an UNFINISHED game.
This is the only game I've seen taking to this practice of an initial fee AND monthly on an early access title.

I've played many mmos with single charges, monthly fees, free with option to buy items.
But the major difference is all of those games were finished.

Too many people are falling for the early access plague that's running a mock on steam.
You're paying money to be a beta tester, and not only that, you're forking it up on a monthly basis.

So I ask once more, can anyone even begin to sell this game to me?
WHERE ARE YOU JIM STERLING ?
this is horrible.... early acces and monthly pay.
you are asking monthly for money for a broken game with the promise that it wil get good...
yeah as if i wil buy that.

we need jim sterling on the case!
thank god for him
Very easy, don't buy it and don't pay, and don't play. You can wait til it's no longer in early access and you will be totally happy with that system. Just think of all the people paying right now that are allowing you to play the game and pay the way you like it making it happen much sooner. You should be happy.
All MMO's are unfinished just FYI. It's normal practice to do this.
I don't mind paying money to play a beta, I've done it for years and it's better than the other option where you either A)Have to wait for beta or release months or years, or B)Randomly chosen to get into early beta.

This game is nothing like Rust or 7D2D or DayZ. Those games are ran on servers that players can control. These are on Xsyon servers hosted by Xsyon run by guides that work for Xsyon.

I don't see how you can say "clearly most people ...." because it's not clear at all. Remember that 1000s of people have bought and played this game on a higher charge and higher monthly fee. The # of people posting here are ALL from steam which are mostly a bunch of kiddies that are looking to play free games because they can't afford to play a game.

The dev posted why your model does not work for Xsyon and I even posted why it's a horrid model for gaming over all.
Pay to win, and Cash shop is crap. It's even worse for small devs because they would have to spend so much time on doing non content work and issues that it would take even long, not even counting the fact that it hurts the game in other ways.
Jordi?...i think you must delete those silly threads from all th kids
