Xsyon - Prelude

Xsyon - Prelude

Should I get this game?
I love open world survival/building games, but oh so many just ends up as a "pew pew" kill anyone you see kind of game.

This game looks really interesting but is it worth it?

Yes...its the only game which our guild plays now years in our city with no ending interest on this Sandbox MMO!...and you can play it free after buying it

So there is a community? And a tribe/guild what ever the name, I can join and work with, do my part and all that?

I do not mind pvp, not at all but I do not enjoy the "kill everyone on sight" kind of open world survival games! I want to be part of a community, build and make my mark upon the land, and yes, defend it (or attack others if needed! XP ) to make it prosper!

Yea, you can (right from the start) create a tribe, drop your totem and your area (25m around it) is protected - containers on the ground? no one can open them (unless you change their permissions allowing for it).

There is a PvP server, and a PvE server so, you are covered ;)

If you are interested, in the following video I talk about the game - things I enjoy about it, things that I would like to see - and I also compare some of its features to Wurm Unlimited, that being the last game like this I played...

Shame there is a need for seperate PvP and PvE servers but yea, I understand why the need. Looks a lot like Wurm Online, which as we know is the base of Wurm unlimited.

For me that is a good thing! I really liked the depth in Wurm Online. I played as the "evil" race, cant remember their name but we got punished for putting corpses into a grave and eating dead people was totally ok according to our god and lore. Despite that damn fungus that killed any plant but our race could absorb it and heal so alot of players liked it...I still managed to dig out a hilltop and create a Zen type of garden, with fountains, lots of maple trees and with weeping willows in the middle! XD

The problem is all the DayZ/Rust PvPers and not the honorable ones you would find back in the day of games like mechwarrior(not the current cash shop trash f2p game). These are the same people that don't understand why there are limits during hunting season. They sit and camp spawn zones and do stupid things like building walls around were people will spawn in. Then they hunt down players that are clearly not pvping and then do things like destroy all the resources they harvested, typically because that person wont pvp them. Then you have the bambi's that are going to inherently perceive all pvp as griefing.

PvP is not griefing, but as you said, waaay to many think that just because you can, you should be an a**hole.
There are many theories as of why. Which I do not care, I simply do not understand nor enjoy that kind of mentality games.

we dont currently have the issue in Xsyon because of the lower population and single war/peace server. I spent this past weekend building up the outer wall on our tirbe, i welcomed one new player and one old player into our tribe.

Overall i had a good weekend on the war server.

As far as if you should get this game, I can say that this is the game im currently playing, over the years iv'e gathered up 8 accounts and i logged into at least 6 of them this weekend.

I own The Division and Fallout 4, Yet i have 0 hours played this week, for all of the shortcomings and problems xsyon has, its better than most crap out there.

I played the game about 3 years ago when it was earlier in the development and I just came back this weekend and already logged in 15h. I decided to play by myself for some time roleplaying a lone survivor and Im having a blast. It is a very demanding and "grindy" game specially if you go solo like Im doing but Im loving it

Thanks for the feedback, just decided to buy it, downloading it right now. XD

I'm very curious to get more feedback from anyone here who can help convince me to get it. I'm a wurm player and such I don't feel it would be hard for me to get into this game.

There are things though that I am looking for, maybe you guys can help me. Wurm is a great game, but there are so many things I wish that were more automated. For instance chopping wood. I always thought it would be cool to have "saw mill" in game where you can feed logs into and it would chop it up into logs.

Not sure what the game dev here has in store for this game. I would really love to see a "road' map of features he/she intends to add. Maybe that would help me want to get more invested. Any thoughts?

I think the crafting in this game is more engaging than Wurm. Maybe it is the better UI or the graphics but I feel much less the grind here than I did in Wurm. Regaring chopping wood I believe it is much faster in Xsyon. You activate the logging skill in front of a tree and you cut it down, you click on it and the game asks if you want short or long logs. If you pick short, the tree turns into a neat pile of cut short logs.

The road map can be found here:
http://www.xsyon.com/content.php/69-xsyon-sandbox-mmorpg-apocalypse-2012-development

The part of the current round that was specifically being worked on is:
Creature revisions
Creature path finding revised
Combat revisions

As far as automation i can say that Xsyon is the opposite of that wish and is very click heavy.

Speed is determined by skill so the guy with 100 skill in logging will cut down trees faster than the 5 skill guy.

I'm fine with clicking a lot. Wurm has a lot of that too, to me it just makes sense to have built in game mechanics like simple machinery to do tasks like taking logs and sawing them into planks etc.
catnipsongs May 30, 2016 @ 3:14pm
The game was dead years ago, only people that kept playing ( for the most part are GMs ) however they wont tell you they are GMs they have normal toons and GM toons. Was a great game, if not for the fact the person you just pvped is a GM. Or the persons land your moving in on is a GM. If this was ever fixed, then Id give it a thumbs up, if not, dont waste your time.
sofiin May 31, 2016 @ 1:10am
Not sure where catnipsongs is getting his info but i know quite a few people that play and are not GM's. I play mainly on pvp and have 3 toons there in 3 differant tribes not once have i ever had to pvp with anyone. Now we do pvp when doing the capture the flag event but it is all in fun.
