Why did it make me kill myself? was it possible to go past 15? how are people getting to level 45 and what not when at 15 the only option was to "shatter"

It doesn't use memory editing or cheats or anything, just using an older version of the game you can get legit from Steam to exploit a bug that was patched some time after release.
