Ever any sales for GW: Trilogy?
I'm a GW2 player interested in playing through all the GW1 campaigns to learn all the lore and backstory for GW2. I am curious if GW: Trilogy has ever gone on sale on steam? $30 Seems a bit steep for such an old game with what I can only imagine is a dwindling player base. So far it's just sitting in my wish list waiting for an e-mail telling me it's on sale.

I've never seen Guild Wars go on sale on Steam in all the years I've been on here. Prior to the launch of GW2, ArenaNet used to offer frequent sales on expansions and cash shop items, but hasn't done that since GW2 either (which also isn't on Steam and likely never will be).

If you're coming from GW2, I'd strongly recommend trying the free trial before putting down any cash since it's such a vastly different game. You can sign up for and download the software here: http://www.guildwars.com/support/downloadclient/

After the trial, if you're still interested, you might be able to find a good deal on a boxed copy if you're okay buying outside of Steam. Otherwise, you'll likely need to bite the bullet and pay the $30. If it's lore and backstory you're looking for you won't be disappointed; the depth of content in GW1 makes GW2 feel like a kiddy pool. :charm:

Best of luck to you!

I don't mind off steam, but from the official site and other retailers, the only sales i've found have been for EU keys only. I know it's a very different beast, played GW1 for about a week when it first came out (didnt grab me enough to take me away from other MMO's I was playing at the time). I want to revisit it and see all the expac content I missed since I'm now enjoying GW2 and want to see all the lore.

That about sums up the maximum amount of time I've seen any backward migrations last, which is why I always suggest the free trial first! At least you'll know what you're getting into.

By the way, it turns out there was[www.guildwarsguru.com] a brief sale back in 2011 on Steam, but it's doubtful we'll see one again. :(

Yeah but those are not NA keys, only europe. As I had mentioned I found plenty of discounted EU keys, but no NA ones.

Well last time my friend bought there eu key it worked na to because its just key code what u get what u put on they site.
its no different are it eu or na key
you can just buy the game of the year edition if you want to see the "backstory of gw2" because factions, nightfall and eye of the north dlc are completely diferent from the "main story"

When I look back upon the time I spent playing the game, $30 feels like a good deal to me. I also felt a bit uncertain at first, as I was under the impression that it was a different game. The free trial advice seems like a good idea to me, and if you like the game and decide to buy it, you can just log back into your trial characters and continue your progress.

I should also add, though: if you're interested in the lore and the story, you must get Eye of the North too, and may want to consider acquiring the Bonus Mission Pack (of course, you don't have to do so right away, but if you're after the lore, I believe the game itself will convince you to buy them).

As for the dwindling player base, that is a reality, but you should also consider that GW1 is not an MMO. It's a cooperative online RPG. I played through the main campaign and all of the expansions with only one close friend as company (we filled the remaining party spots with NPCs), and we had a lot of fun doing so. Mind you, I'm not saying the community is THAT dead, just that a dwindling community isn't going to hamper you.

You can always find people in-game or here who will gladly play with you, and who sometimes are in the same situation as you.

It's graphics are a bit dated, but not enough to really interfere with gameplay. But coming from GW2, you'll be in for a shock. It has a completely different playstyle, allowing you to mix and match your skills based on where you're going or what you are doing, provided you are in a town or outpost. In comparison, GW2 is a much simpler game. If you like tweaking your skills and attributes so that they're just right, you'll have a lot of fun with it. I've personally invested hundreds of hours in the game, so $30 for the trilogy is a steal. I would highly recommend it, especially if you're interested in the lore, as it's a very lore-heavy game.

Yeah I'm about to spend the $30 on the trilogy as I used to play it a few years ago and I'd like to play it again. It's not too bad price wise.

You lost the account or keys that you'd buy it again?

There are ways to get the game. I think like 30 bucks for trilogy + eotn.
