Anet, if you're reading this: it's time to finally admit you've ♥♥♥♥ed up big time with WoC hard mode content and rebalance it, at least for those of us who care enough to still play GW1 and want to wrap things up.
I am by no means a bad player and I have GWAMM, but this quest has got to be one of the hardest and absolutely anti-fun in the entire game and for all the wrong reasons.
Four-man HM areas are unbalanced enough as it is, but filling those areas with large groups of enemies with extremely strong builds is a recipe for failure.
Enemies stronger than you aren't the problem, the absolutely excessive number of said enemies compared to your party size is.
My suggestion is to cut the number of Afflicted groups in half. There is far too many of them and they require far too much time to clear, adding more and more to the frustration of having your time wasted by countless attempts at this quest.
Because of your inability to properly balance this one single quest, myself and many others are forever stuck with the unbalanced WoC maps. I regret ever starting this content all those years ago now.

Or you can just turn it off by taking the Memories of Purity quest in Kaineng City.

The wiki says you need to have completed Cleansing Morostav Trail to be able to pick up that quest.

In normal mode only. He's talking about hard mode, so even though he's unable to complete the quest chain he should still have access to that quest. In theory, he shouldn't be stuck with those spawns. Doesn't solve the issue of the lack of four-man group balance in WoC but it is a solution he said he'd live with in his post.
