Guild Wars won't launch

I just bought Guild Wars last night, installed it, and it worked fine. I had to switch it to Compatibility Mode to hear the audio, but other than that there were no problems. I shut down my computer for the night. The next day, when I try to play, the game won't launch. Steam says the game is running for about 2 seconds, then it acts as though you exited. I watched Windows Task Manager during this process and it never says Guild Wars is running during those 2 seconds.
I restarted the computer, restarted Steam, logged out and back in, deinstalled and reinstalled the game; nothing seems to get this game to work like it did last night.
Can anyone help me?

having similar problems, i just downloaded the guild wars 1 launcher from the website

And I trust that you both also have played Guild Wars 2 (GW's 2), right? Imho, the main issue is that the Arena.Net account uses the same log in and pass' credentials as your GW's 2 account.
Please try using those to log into GW's to see if solves your issue.

Although for rather reasonable reasons I can't pin point it exactly because I'm an ol' CD-DVD GW's player and my account still works when I reinstall GW's either from their site's installer or either from my CD-DVD's digital images (that I've made in the mid time as security measure mostly because noticed that PC's started to come without that sort of player).
