DLC Classes question
Just wondering how the expansions and their new classes work. Once I finish the base game do I start a new character in the expansions or import my old character? If I import do I get to re pick my sub class? Is their any way to play the new classes outside of their expansions? I didn't see the option when making my character.

No, you must have / own the respective world 'expansions' in order to make their according classes, like the Assassin, Ritualist for Factions and the Dervish, Paragon for NightFall (NF).

Although, if memory serves me right, you can make already existing classes from the base game upon those other parts of the world. For example, my Warrior is a NF's native because it was easier to hunt down a few of that classes elites and those of the Paragon because it was my 1st 2nd class pick to that character and their non mana based systems seemed to synergize quite well (rage or blocking attacks, although can't recall it right atm).

But then again, I still own all of those 3 upon CD-DVD format, alongside with the Eye of the North (EotN).

Hm.. I'ma try to break down the answer coz I'm not sure if I read your entire question correctly.

1. Your pre-existing character's main PRIMARY profession(class) is fixed, the SECONDARY profession is completely flexible and you can switch anytime you are in a safe zone - outpost/town. However, you will 1st have to pay 500 gold iirc, to unlock a new secondary profession on that character before you are able to freely switch to that profession.
e.g. - I start with a W/Mo (warrior/monk), I'll need to pay 500 gold switch to a W/E (warrior/elementalist). Then I can freely switch between W/Mo & W/E.

2. When you start a new character from 1 of the 3 campaigns, that's what we call a character native to that campaign. Your same native character can progress into another expansion/campaigns once you've reached/unlocked a certain outpost/town in your current campaign.
e.g. - I started a Factions campaign character, that means that character is native to factions. I can choose to complete OR not to complete Factions and jump into Nightfall's or Prophecies' campaign(expansion). However I must first reached Kaineng Center to obtain their mission(quest) to cross over to a foreign campaign.

3. To start a new PRIMARY profession from the expansions, you will have to start from the native campaign itself.
e.g. - If you want a Paragon or Dervish for primary profession, you have to start them from Nightfall campaign. Assassin or Ritualist from Factions campaign.

4. To change your SECONDARY profession to 1 of the 4 mentioned expansion professions above, I believe you simply just need to own the expansions then visit the same NPC to pay 500g to change a secondary profession.

You can take any class to any campaign, from any campaign, but it involves an amount travelling and getting certain quests done to do it. Sometimes it also requires you to be a certain level, but that's easily attainable. Good advice is to finish whatever campaign you start in and then make the decision whether you want to take that character to the other campaigns or just start a new character in the new campaigns. There's benefits and detriments to each.

Typically, the six core classes introduced in Prophecies (also available Factions and Nightfall) benefit more from going to other campaigns than the new unique classes introduced in Factions and Nightfall. That is because new skills unique to each campaign are available to all six core classes in each campaign. No new skills for the new classes of Factions and Nightfall were introduced to previous campaigns retroactively. Therefore, for example a Ritualist (Factions) will benefit a lot from doing both Factions and Nightfall, but it won't benefit much by doing Prophecies because Prophecies is an earlier campaign. Likewise, a Dervish from Nightfall won't gain that much by doing Prophecies or Factions.

(Technically Factions does have one new skill available for every class, but annoyingly they're only available halfway through the Factions Campaign.)
