Will this game shut down?

Greetings, I'm a casual gw2 player who is thinking of buying this game when discount hits to give a try thoroughly.

However, I'll likely leave it to rot or let's say ferment like wine in my library for some times before committing to it since I'm a not too much invested in gaming anymore & I have many more games to play/finish before this one.

I'm afraid by the times I turn to it, they won't support the game anymore & will close their doors to everyone. I don't mind if this game become older, I wish they would turn it to offline co-op if possible content's wise instead of shutting it down. I'm saying this because I think I have read few years ago that this game is already past it's scheduled date of closing.

This game won't die until GW2 does and despite what some people (mostly trolls) say, that one ain't going anywhere for at least 5-10 years.

Guild Wars 1 runs on the same servers as Guild Wars 2 and is not noticable as they said once. So as long as GW2 is running, GW1 stays online, too. GW2 is a stable game within NCSofts lineup. They messed with Anet though which became visible in the story arc of the Ice Brood Saga.

The original Guild Wars has been in maintenance mode for about 8-10 years at least. They aren't supporting it in any way shape or form now. It been pretty dead for years. Guild Wars 2 on the other hand is still doing okay in numbers.

That's a lie. The last update was on December 22nd and was a bug fix. No major content has been added for years but the game is still supported.

It's still in maintenance mode... nothing has changed.

No it won't shut down anytime soon, they regulary do some fixes here and there, they're keeping the game in good shape for as long as they can, though no real content will get added but they still added new elite skills, weapons and other QoL things the last few years

This game will most likely never shutdown long as people keep playing the game. One of the staff said once along time ago the servers are really cheap to keep the game running.

As long GW2 exists, GW3 will be a thing and people keep playing GW1. This will exist. Its running somewhere in a corner of GW2 servers if I recall. No downtime in 6 years, etc etc. I think it will be even up when it's 2035 so 30 years afters its release.

The game will most likey stay up for quite a while. Anet said themself that it doesnt really cost them anything and considering that there are still people that keep buying alt accounts, account upgrades, espeacially on sale, i'm pretty sure it earns them more than it costs to keep it running. So it's a win win for them.
