Guildwars 1 download after installation?

I just bought the GW1 Triology, downloaded 2.2GB (plus a small patch with the launcher) and created a character. As I try to log in to the world now Guildwars wants to download over 11.000 files in what looks like a loading screen. It is doing this at a very slow speed and I feel strange about it... why would it need to download so many files after I just installed it?

Slow speed because old servers etc.

if you want to get all Guild Wars files, so don`t have any DL in the future, do the following.

Ccopy your shortcut to Guild Wars (don't use your normal shortcut), right-click on it, choose Properties and in the target box add -image so that it looks like

“C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe” -image

The game client downloads each location - town, outpost or explorable area - as and when needed after a fresh install. It's good because it gets you into the game quicker, but to avoid sporadic downloads do a full install as Banana says. The full download is only about 4GB.
