Please take everything he says with a grain of salt.
If you just scroll a little in these forums he is known as the toxic poster. 3-4 times a week.
There are many builds that are viable. Find synergies that work well. Minion master is fine, spiteful spirit combos are fine. There are many others.
Pretty sure on GW wiki theres a PvE build templates to learn from and experiment with. Good starting place.
for death magic i would recommend you to start with Animate bone horror, death nova and flesh golem (maybe add rising bile to the mix). it will require some micro management of minions so you can cast death nova on them before they get killed. try to avoid bone fiends, they cost a lost and dont do much
curses: spiteful spirit, enfeebling blood and mark of pain is a solid start
blood magic is kind of weak most of the times, you will either run a battery or order build to boost your team, or inflict health degen to foes, it can be very powerful is some team builds but will disappoint most of the time
Basically just focus on 1-2 attributes until you reach Lion's Arch, then you unlock travel to the other two trilogy campaigns, and can start building something along the PvX builds.
This page has a build you can start using from pretty much the start of Prophecies: https://gwpvx.fandom.com/wiki/Build:Team_-_7_Hero_Beginner_Team/Necromancer
I think this is a bit over the top. He is new player. This build takes time to find all the skills.
Edit: im not saying your wrong, just this guide is hard for new players.
-Vampiric Gaze (Blood Magic, can get it easily from skill trainers throughout)
-Deathly Swarm (Death Magic, can also easily obtain this one)
-Animate Bone Horror (Death Magic, another pretty easy one, this requires a trip to Kaineng)
-Signet of Lost Souls (Soul Reaping, can be gotten from Kamadan so also easy)
-Animate Bone Fiend (Death Magic, easiest way to get this is from Kaineng)
-Aura of the Lich (Elite Death Magic skill, unfortunately needs access to the Hell's Precipice mission in Prophecies to obtain)
-Death Nova (Death Magic, like the Signet, it's also easiest to obtain from Kamadan)
-Blood Bond (Blood Magic, can also be gotten from Kaineng, or from the easier location Shing Jea Monastery if needed on a Factions character)
Hope this helps!
It takes understanding what makes a build work and I am really really rusty, but necro MM thrives on (1) the energy it gets back from dying minions, (2) having cheap meat shields (3) doing AoE damage.
posted this a bit ago, forgot to include gear recs though so I can always do that now.
Armor: to get the amount of Death Magic I have you do need a Scar Pattern of Death Magic, but the rest of the armor itself doesn't matter much.
Runes: the runes I use specifically are:
-Bloodstained Insignia (REALLY good, it reduces casting time of spells that exploit corpses which is a Minionmancer's job)
-2 Radiant Insignias (put those on the chest and leggings for +5 energy)
-a Rune of Major Death Magic (needed to get the 15 Death Magic though you can leave this out if you don't like the health loss)
-an Undertaker's Insignia
-a Blighter's Insignia
-2 Runes of Minor Vigor (use these if you take the Major Death Magic rune) and 2 Runes of Vitae (same as the Vigor runes)
Weapon: my personal weapon is The Stonereaper, but not only is this not a good weapon for a Minionmancer (especially if using my build), but it's hard to obtain. Really, what you're gonna wanna do is try to look for a weapon with a +energy inscription on it because minion skills chew through energy hard (a great starter weapon is the Bone Staff you can get from a collector in the Eastern Frontier for 3 Charr Carvings)
Hope this helps!
Vampiric Gaze, Deathly Swarm, and Animate Bone Horror can be gotten super early in Prophecies (like, tutorial area early) but the other skills will need traveling to acquire so you'll likely have to substitute with your secondary of choice until you reach Lion's Arch.
