Worth playing without EOTN?
Hello, just wondering.. is it worth playing this game if I don't have EOTN?

I don't really know if I want to buy EOTN for the price it is at when the game is old and not really super active anymore.
I know there is also no Hall of Monument stuff without EOTN.

Thanks.

Yea, the 3 core campaigns are still worthwhile without EotN. The game might be a bit harder because you can't access EotN's heroes and overpowered PvE-only skills, but GW is fully playable and enjoyable without those.

Eye of the north introduced so many overpowered skills that pretty much ruined the game as a whole.

You dont need EotN to enjoy this game, but be ready for a somewhat challenging game until you learn the mechanics.

The game itself has a good story and is quite entertaining. The mechanics are both punishing and rewarding.

The lore of the “prophecies” campaign is epic, highly recommend if you like exploring games. Main missions are mostly optional in this campaign as well

You're supposed to be playing the original campaigns before EotN anyway. It comes last in the timeline so you don't even need to make the decision until you've played the other three. If you like the game and want more, buy it. If not, don't.

I realize it comes last in story. I was more asking because it provides a lot of heroes and henchmen in the game don't seem to be the best out there.

the eye of the north expansion adds a lot of things that makes the game easier, i do recommend you purchase it just for the additional skills and heroes.
the expansion itself is a mixed bag, it was supposed to be an "introduction" to the gw2 lore and it goes a bit fast, with lots of holes in the story; not to mention it is quite a grind to max the new "titles".

if you find the game too difficult (it was supposed to be challenging), then the "unlockables" in that expansion will help you a lot.

there are also "mercenaries" which will make the whole game a breeze to run through (kind of ruins the fun in my opinion)

Tbh it being last in the timeline isn't very important, as it consists of three storylines, only one of which continues the story of the prologue of Prophecies, and none has any connection to Factions or Nightfall.

Typically people start in one of the campaigns, then upon reaching lvl 10 and a port city they hop over to EotN to unlock the first 3 heroes in like 10 mins, then continue the campaign where they left off.

But if you start in Nightfall, you will start getting useful heroes pretty soon. The 3 core campaigns are largely unconnected (except for the penultimate mission of Nightfall that has references for the previous two campaigns). So you can play them almost in any order.

Btw mercenaries are indeed OP, but they cost a lot of real cash. (a 3-pack is 18 GBP)

On top of buying all expansions. I also bought bonus mission pack. It gives cool weapon skins and more story.

I think it's worth a mention.

I would like to know your opinion about the skills introduced in that expansion.

A bit of an update, game has been fine even without EoTN. I do still want to save up enough though. I do think the heroes you get from it would help though and some nice armor sets are from it but of course those aren't needed. It also seems like a lot of speed clears / dungeons are in EoTN. Only last thing is I found out that I can't create pcons (to use or sell) without having EoTN which kind of sucks.

Tbf, the game is so well-compartmentalized that any section of it can still be "worth playing," but I wouldn't want to limit my build options or content selection. Redoing missions or vanquishes really isn't -that- much fun unless it's a daily bounty, but I LOVE just doing choice EotN dungeons because I like the enemy composition/strategy/loot of a particular one, even when it isn't a daily bounty, and all the more when it is!

Whenever I'm playing an alt character, Legendary Master of the North and all the associated reputations are usually the titles I end up (inadvertently) filling out first.

And the array of new heroes that it throws at you really begins to open up your team-building possibilities. Especially consider if you ever want to use pre-packaged builds, any kind of a PvX or set of builds that someone will link you will Presume you have access to the fullest possible party comps (eg, three necros, or three mesmers, or two rits). If you don't you'll have to do a lot of inventing, and it's not impossible by any stretch, it's just kind of annoying to feel so "held back".
