Hello reader!

been trying to get into GW for the past few days but it keeps saying network error. My firewall gives it complete access, and my login deets are correct.

Strange, I played all right yesterday. So it's probably something on your end.

Edit: Checked just now and I can log in and play fine.

As long as GW2 is up & running then GW1 will also be up & running. Likely on your end mate

Have you used Geforce Now? There was recently a (bot) ban wave due to the inherent nature of the service

I don't know what Geforce Now is, but I do have Geforce Drivers. I have no idea what the problem could be then - I have no connectivity issues, and my antivirus is set to allow all GW traffic. :( It just says Network Error too, not that my account has been suspended.

Also if I type the wrong password it does say that I got it wrong, so.. I mean.. It clearly -is- connecting to the internet somehow.

Try to contact support? Apparently they are reasonably responsive for a game in maintenance mode.

(As far as I heard GW2's customer service is handling GW1 too now.)

Starting a completely new account could be fun I suppose. I'd miss all my old characters something fierce, but a total fresh start has its own challenges.

This is the error message people blocked because of GeForce Now got too. It can mean anything suspicious going on with an account: https://twitter.com/that_shaman/status/1367763121239162882

I'd contact support, if they give a copypaste a response, ask to escalate, and provide as much detail as you can when they ask. Maybe you were hacked, but people managed to get back their hacked accounts before.

That's exactly the screen I got. :o I didn't have any of the ANet suspicious login texts either. I also don't have Geforce Now though - I don't know what it even is. :(

GeForce Now lets you play games without a strong PC - the game is running on their servers, and being streamed to your device while you play it. Companies have to opt in to enable playing their games through that service. Iirc (the free version?) makes you disconnect every hour, so for ANet it seemed as it people playing through GeForce were logging in from a new IP every hour.

Your account probably triggered that same automatic security measure, either bc of being hacked or another reason. But I know GW2 players in that situation managed to get their account unblocked, so I hope you succeed too.

Thanks. Worst case scenario I just get a new account - the more I think of it, the more fun starting fresh sounds. My old characters live on in heart and art anyway.

As long as all the correct info is provided they'll unblock the account. Though what's on the Account after (maybe) someone stole it is another thing all together

Still waiting for a reply to my email, but even if my account does get unbanned I am increasingly warming to the idea of starting over from scratch. No skill unlocks or heroes, no gold or items~ sounds like a novel experience! Does the game ever go on sale?
