i;d recommend visiting the official store from time to time, whats how i got myself another 2 alt accounts with complete collection for 25 bucks each
https://store.guildwars.com/
Now, if I use the GW store, those purchases won't work on Steam, right?
i have over 30k hours in this game and never bought a Steam version. you can play this game as long as you have an account, and you will need an activation key to make an account (this is what Steam will provide you)
Thanks.
I am not in a guild, nor looking for one, havent really played this game since 2012 (my hours were made before that)
LGIT is one of those guilds that accept anyone and have a large active alliance, can be helpful to people starting out and playing PvE. it does get annoying after a while tho.
I already had a GW2 / ArenaNet account, so I just added to the CD key Steam gave me to that account on the ANet website, and I could log in with the same details in both GW and GW2.
If you don't have an account yet, there's probably a menu for creating one ingame.
Right now, I'm waiting for an email response from Arenet to unlock my account (due to security purposes or something). It's been so long ago, I have no idea what's going on. Either way, I hope to get that resolved here quickly.
Now, as soon as it is and I buy the keys from CheapPunk, what exactly do I do after that? Do I download the game from ANet and just put in the keys I got from Punk? If so, how then do I open it in Steam? I'm not sure at all how to make the connection between the game and Steam?
download the game client
right click the game on Steam -> manage -> cd keys ( or something of the like), copy the key
open the game client, click create account
paste the copied cd key and create an account
after you have an account, you can login into the game by opening the game client, either from Steam or directly; it doesnt matter
As far as downloading the game client, from where do I do this? I can't do it from within Steam because I have to buy it there first; I can't just download it, as far as I can tell.
The issue here for me is that I can't get access to GW1 from within Steam except by purchasing it through Steam, which then means I can't use the CheapPunk keys. And if this is the case, there seems to be no way to get the game over to Steam if I have to buy the game elsewhere using Punk's keys.
to get the game on Steam, you'll need a Steam activation key for that game.
if you already have an account, download the game client from the official website:
https://www.guildwars.com/en/download
login and play
So to sum it up, you need a Steam key to add GW to your Steam account and be able to download it through the Steam client. You can either get the Steam key from Steam itself or a third-party site (such as CheapPunk).
Whichever way you buy the game, once you have GW on your Steam account, it gives you a CD key for GW that you can add to your existing GW2 account on ANet's website, then use that as a login (or create an entirely new ANet account, but if you care about connecting your two games via Hall of Monuments then just use the existing account.)
Once GW is installed on your PC (either via Steam or via the official site), you can login with any GW account through the client. It doesn't have to be the same account that Steam gave you the CD key for, even if you launch it via Steam.
CheapPunk told me that the key they give needs to be used (if I understood correctly) after you download the client from the GW1 site. Then you enter the access key you've bought from Punk, and that activates the game; Steam isn't going to be a part of that.
Further, this made sense because the only way I saw you can get the game activated within Steam is to purchase it within Steam, which makes buying keys from Punk meaningless.
So I just avoided the whole issue and got the game directly from GW1. I can still jump on Steam's Discussion for it (here) if I have questions or what have you.
Thanks very much, all, for the help.
