Best Henchmen starting out

Hey all,
So, I'm starting a char in each campaign, and I'm wondering what you all think are the best henchmen in each campaign to start (and to continue if you don't have enough heroes), and what are the best strategies for henchmen use (until, of course, you can get heroes).

In general I go with caster henches, as melee in GW is just painful. And take at least one monk.
