Imho the sidequests' writing is often better than the main campaign, and there are a ton of funny quest descriptions and dialogues :)
Btw most sidequests can be done after finishing the campaign they belong to (with a few exceptions), so you don't necessarily need to do them simultaneously with the main storyline, even if that gives the most immersion.
There are better ways to make money in game, and the lore you'll miss is not going to blow your ass away.
As others have said, do the ones that give you free skills as that will save you cash, ignore the rest unless you really have nothing better to play/do.
If you like lore, well its all over the place, even rando npc's in the wild have unique text sometimes and if lore is what you like ,well its kinda great in the game
