The serial code given was not recognized by our system

I contacted ArenaNet and they told me they couldn't help me because I purchased the trilogy from Steam, so here I am. Whenever I try to add the CD key to my currently existing ArenaNet account, I keep getting the error in the title of this post. I'm not sure what to do at this point? Any help that anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated!
