PSA: ArenaNet not accepting CD keys provided by Valve for Summer Sale
When I try to redeem keys for GW Trilogy and Eye of the North I get the following error message:

The serial code given was not recognized by our system. Please try again.

Is anyone else running into the same problem?

Same here... Hope we get this solved soon.

EDIT: I got it to work. You actually have to make a new account in-game and use the key there.

What do you mean make a new account? I already have Prophecies and Factions. I don't want a new account

You can't use it with your existing gw2 arenanet account? This is really confusing honestly.

There's an option to redeem a key for an existing account in game.

You can, but if you didn't already have a Guild Wars 1 account, it will make you make one. You can use the same account as GW2 though when you sign up and it will work.

Exactly why I ended up refunding. I think there's a reason why GW hasn't been on sale in a while...

i think you are confused.

you can link GW1 to an existing GW2 account.

you can also use add a GW1 cdkey to an existing GW1 account.

No, I don't think so. I followed that guide line for line, still didn't help.

I kept running up against a connection error which was another rabbit hole in itself. I reinstalled GW2 per the GW wiki to resolve the connectivity issue, still no joy.

Way too much of a hassle just to register and play a 13 year old game. I have plenty of other MMO's to play, just wanted to pick this up for the lore, nothing more.

this is for GW1 not GW2. i am not sure what you are going at, is it a problem with linking GW1 to your GW2 account, or something else?

why would it be a hassle to register a new account? it works the same for every MMO with 3rd party client.

You may not think so, but that's literally all it takes. I just bought GW1 and linked it to my GW2 account today; it took about 15 minutes.

Wait, so if I ONLY have a GW2 account with no pre-existing GW1 account, I have to choose to make a new account? How do I link the two afterwards?

I don't know anything about linking the accounts. I just know I had to choose to make a new account, but I used the exact same info as my GW2 account, and it worked. As far as linking them goes though, I have no clue. Sorry.

Follow the guide. You make a new GW1 account and then link that to your GW2 account.

If you go to Guild Wars 2 account management, there will be an option to link your Guild Wars 1 account to your Guild Wars 2 account. You might want to consult this: https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/230900328-Linking-your-Guild-Wars-Guild-Wars-2-Accounts
Redeeming my CD keys from Valve worked just fine for me. You're going to have to provide more detail about what you're doing if you want help. For Guild Wars 1, account creation and management is done entirely within the client itself. If you're trying to redeem your CD key through the Guild Wars 2 account management interface, that won't work.

If you want to add GW1 to your A-Net/GW2 account, it's not through "Redeem a Code" but by the 'linking account" option somewhere on the website https://account.arena.net

I also just bought this game a couple of days ago and couldn't add the keys but linking the account works, in case you bought the game to get HoM rewards for your GW2 account.
