Any% Strats
So I just finished my first try at an Any% run (36:36) Was wondering if anyone out there had come up with anything better (I died 39 times so it wasn't near perfect) Here's what I did; after the initial 4, I did the flower&mushroom, then the sleeping giant and Mask, then the chest and Titan Slayer, then ran down to do the Giant-Skull-withSpicky-Balls-Dude. After which the Guardian then the Soul. Credits ran so I count this as an Any% completion. Any tips would be appreciated, particularily regarding the last soul required to open the last gate (Skull-Dude is far away, are there any closer bosses?) Thanks and good hunting!

You're skipping the snow area completely? The yetti and stratus can be killed P quick. And personally I woudl skip the lava area entirely. But I usually let other people do routing >.<

Also are you exiting to the menu to teleport? If you skip the spawn circle in the forest and kill the two bosses without dying (should shouldn't be that hard after practicing) you can exit to the menu and teleport back to the middle of the map.
.

EDIT: Maybe something like> Plant > Mushroom > Yeti > Stratus > Serpent > Mimic > Titan Slayer ?

Personally I prefer doing, mushroom>graveyard titans>mimic(no titan slayer cause I fail at him need practice)>all snow zone. Onixia might be the hardest one to do in the snow, but she is much easier than spin2win skullman. You could replace onixia with the rolling ball in lavaland though that might do the trick.

Any% meaning a speedrun that finishes the game regardless of completion? In other words, basically trying for the Aerodynamic achievement?

I just got this after working on it all night. Thought it was going to be the death of me. I'm working on a video of the run now, but in the meantime I'll list my route:

Initial 4
Gol'Hevel (Mask)
Elhanan (Knight)
Avarice (Mimic)
Rol'Qayin (Roller)
Mol'Qayin (Lava)
Yeti (...Yeti)
Stratus (Teeth)
Final 2

It took many, many tries, but I ended up with 18:29. I had 4 deaths, 3 of which were in the final battle against The Soul. To give you an idea of how much extra time I had, if I had hit The Soul with my first opportunity, my finishing time would have been 17:17.

This probably isn't the most optimal path through the game, but I thought about it and decided that these were titans that 1) I could defeat quickly and usually consistently and 2) could be arranged so that my route took me in a fairly efficient circle. In other words, with the order I've given here, you don't finish the last of the 7 necessary titans in a place far away from the door.

It occurred to me that you can probably exit to the main menu and resume to "teleport" to your last save point, but I did not want to do this.

If you haven't already, I recommend taking a completed save file (gold border) and using it to get all of the titan-specific achievements. This is great practice for fighting them, and it also forces you to learn how to beat some of them extremely quickly. Once you learn how to kill Rol'Qayin in 5 seconds and Yeti in 10 seconds, you can do it every time. You should also practice Gol'Set. Get him down to a science. The Soul is more difficult to master, but you can still learn how to dance with it with practice. If you mean to get a speedrun under 20 minutes, the hardest fights along the way are going to be the ones that wreck your run over and over, so get some practice in once you have your overall plan.

The fastest route is mushroom+plant > mask > knight+mimic > boulder+spikey skull. Do not hit any save point. As soon as you drain the last titan, you exit game, respawn at the start, and run up to the door.

All of those bosses have quick-kills that aren't super risky as long as you're well practiced in them, so a deathless run is both possible and pretty much required to get a good run.

bananasaura_rex on Twitch did 100% in 20 minutes. Highlight should be coming soon. http://www.twitch.tv/bananasaurus_rex

100% in 20 minutes? I can hardly believe that's possible, even with the exit cheat. Will be very interested to see it. Could you post when the highlight is up, please?

For my run, I felt that the mushroom and plant were too far out of the way (and a bit of a pain to reliably defeat for me), and I wanted to avoid both the spikey skull and the iceburg sea serpent because they are fiddly and time-consuming battles.

Correction, fastest any% route seems to be mushroom+plant > knight+mimic > all volcano bosses > save warp back to start. Again, they can all be quick-killed or one-cycled, if you do it right.

20 minutes IGT for all bosses is not all that great actually—the run had 4 deaths. Under 18 minutes is a reasonable goal right now and I wouldn't be shocked to see 15-16 minutes all bosses in not too long.

Anyway here's the highlight: http://www.twitch.tv/bananasaurus_rex/v/4078121

Real time is much closer to 30 minutes because of the quitting out thing, of course. I expect that when runs get serious people will be going by real time, in which case quitting will only be worth it to save travel distance.

Does in-game time mean excluding time when the player can't do anything and has to watch the soul absorption cutscenes?

Well it's whatever the game runs the timer during, really, and that is included. When you quit out it "refunds" approximately the time of that cutscene.

Hm, okay. Thanks for explaining. Also, nice job!

Here's my own run for the Aerodynamics achievement. As I mentioned above, I did not use the exit exploit.

Durring my first playthrough I did something that I haven't been able to recreate. I killed Gol-iath at the start from the side (with his fist still blocking). Not sure if it has been patched or if it is faster/slower than standard methods but here it is.

Managed to get 10:36 IGT any% with one stupid death to the Yeti. Clean run with this route should be a hair under 10 minutes.
