Q: I can get the Complete Edition that includes all expansion packs on GOG for half the price! Why should I buy this crap?

A: Because this version has HD textures/sprites that look a lot better than those in the original game. More than 25000 sprites and bitmaps were overhauled by hand to make them look nice and crisp in high resolutions like 1080p.

Q: You lie, there is already a HD mod for the original game! I can download it for free and it will look just as good as this scam!

A: While it's true that there is a HD mod for free it has nothing in common with this remake. The HD mod only enables you to play on higher resolutions, the textures/sprites are exactly the same as before. That means the quality of the graphics is not improved at all in the mod version. So no, it won't look as good as the remake.

Q: Then why didn't they remake the expansions as well? They are lazy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s who only want to steal my hard earned money!

A: Unfortunately the original developer of HoMM 3, 3DO/New World Computing, went bankrupt in 2003. The source code of the expansions was lost when that happened, which means the developers of the remake have no access to the raw data of the expansions - which is needed to update it properly.

Q: So what am I missing out on if I buy their crappy HD version? No expansions! No random map generator! And no popular mods like Wake of Gods? Wtf?!

A: No expansions also means no random map generator. Whether you really need random maps is a question you have to answer for yourself - there were several thousand user created maps for HoMM 3, and the average map takes several hours to complete. The map editor is still there and it's not clear yet whether old RoE maps will work with the remake. Most mods (especially the popular ones like WoG and HotA) will not work with the HD remake and it's questionable if they ever will.

Q: You are an Ubisoft fanboy! Do graphics really matter more to you than gameplay?

A: I'm only stating facts. Whether you want to buy this remake or not is totally up to you.

What more is there to say? Take a look at the HD edition screens and the speedpainting video. Speaks for itself. This is the superior edition.

I hope you are not involved in graphics in any form. Many people complain that the new artwork is not good. And that is just soooo not true. The screenshots are awesome. It's more plastic than the original work, that's true, but it's not at all blurry or "made out of cardboard".

Never played it, I didn't like the concept. However I love retro games and some other which are pixelly as hell. It's just that I would like to play HoMM3 on a VERY BIG SCREEN and still see something. It was my dream for a couple of years now. No, the HD-mod does not do the trick.

I got a 21" widescreen. VCMI works like a charm with that. And it doesn't strech the game at all, so no blurries at all

They destroyed carefully crafted, original art. They didn't enhanced it. They made it bigger. Now all is more "plastic"... I mean you sound like a guy who likes fake tits and cheap beer.

Something that really baffles me all the time...if you think the graphics don't look better or even worse than in the original game (which is clearly not true, but whatever - it's your neurotic opinion) then what the hell are you doing here? It's not like Ubisoft is taking down other versions of the game. They don't force anyone to buy the HD version either. It's not of your concern, it doesn't affect you in any way. And if you now want to tell me that you want to 'warn' other people (who are of course too dumb to make up their own mind) purely out of altruism then I won't stop laughing until the game comes out on January 29th.

Quite obviously a lot of people think this version looks great (since the game is in the Steam top sellers, which means it sells like sliced bread). Your neurotic naysaying doesn't do anything except for annoying people on this forum who maybe would like to talk about the good old times they had with the game and what they plan to do once the HD version comes out instead of listening to your silly 1+1 = 0.5 trash talk.

And how does 21" qualitfy as a big screen? I'm thinking about 46" and above.
